I thought I cleaned the tire good enough, but I did not. Now I have Tuffshine flaking off.

Before I start trying everything to get the Tuffshine off. What would you recommend I use to clean off the Tuffshine so I can start again.

Thanks :)

Sorry to say, I don't remember off-hand how to remove it.

I think it was something type of solvent like lacquer thinner, or mineral spirits or really nasty stuff - acetone.

I know you can call the manufacturer and ask them and they can tell you.

From Tuf Shine:
How do I remove the finish
It is not easy, but a few cleanings with TUF SHINE Tire Cleaner and a stiff bristle brush will remove most of the product. It will require a little time and elbow grease to accomplish this. This just shows how tough the finish is.

Than Ron for digging that up. I've been the garage setting up for videos - so not a lot of computer time today.

Also just to add....

For anyone reading this into the future - it is vitally important that you get the tires sidewalls surgically clean. The best way I know how to do this is to machine scrub the tires and do it until the tire cleaner you're using foams white on the tire sidewall. This is usually 2, 3 4 maybe 5 times.

Back when I started showing the Porter Cable polisher with a Cyclo Brush to machine scrub tires, time stamp on this video is October of 2013, I timed myself and I spent 45 minutes on each tire. Now these are 40" tall tires but they were brand new and never had a tire dressing applied.

Cyclo Brush on a Griot's DA Polisher = Best Machine Tire Scrubber
These tires have a lot of very thin or fine lines raised lines in the sidewall so to get into these areas and agitate the tire dressing I'm use a Gray, Ultra Soft Upholstery Brush (https://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/redirect-to/?redirect=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.autogeek.net%2Fcyclo-brushes.html) made for Cyclo Polishers on a Griot's Garage DA Polisher on about the 5.0 Speed Setting with the TUFF SHINE Tire Cleaner (https://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/redirect-to/?redirect=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.autogeek.net%2Ftuf-shine-tire-cleaner.html).

But now that FLEX has introduced the CORDLESS PE14 Rotary Buffer - this is the killer way to machine scrub tires before applying a coating AND you cannot get shocked!

BIG PICTURE - GET THEM CLEAN!

Also - my own rule for tire coatings is I will only apply tire coatings to tires I can trust have never had a dressing applied.

He didnt say, and I didnt think to ask. I can try 50/50 and see if it works, if not, go full strength.

Try it and let us know. I'm not ready to remove my Tuf Shine just yet, but I'm curious to know if IPA will remove Tuf Shine.
