I’ve been completely unimpressed with otc bug and tar removers to remove tar from rocker panels. Nothing seems to work all that great. I’ve tried roadkill but I’m looking for something stronger. Terminator works best otc but will wreck havoc on black plastic trim. What’s the best out there for tar that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg?

I’ve had good luck with Carpro TarX. I think it’s about $15 dollars a bottle

3M Adisive Remover or Citrol 266 for extreme tar removal and you need to be aggitate the tar a little.

Carpro TarX or Gyeon Tar or g-techniq W7 Tar and Glue remover. For spray on and let dwell and rinse off tar removal. You can aggitate lightly with a mf towel with these too to get it work more effectively on harder tar spots. I found that it's not much product that needs to be used with TarX. And also TarX has also citrus solvents in it that makes it smell good when used. With all tar removers you will be carefull on plastic trim and lights. Often the biggest mess on plastic trim is that it's desolve the protection on them. So be prepared to apply something protection on where you use a tar remover. On some LSP is fine and wont degrade the LSP as coatings and some sealants.

All the good quality companies have an effective tar remover : CarPro, Gtechiq, 3M, etc. For some reason, the companies like Turtle Wax don't seems to have good products for bugs or tar... Maybe they don't want to sell solvents to the public for safety reasons. Not sure. But all the suggestions above work great. You know immediatelly if the stuff you are using is good when tar starts to disolve and run on contact with the product.

Citrol 266 works pretty well on heavy tar.
