I just got the hood replaced and painted (base with clear coat) on my 2008 BMW 535. When will it be OK to wash and apply sealant to the new paint? I typically use Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant on my cars. Thank you.

I would ask that question of the person that
did the actual paint job. Surely he’d know,
firsthand, about all of the characteristics re-
garding the paint(s) that he used—including
their total cure-time.

In the meantime; and in order to protect
the paint while it cures; you can safely use
Meguiar’s M305.

Call the body shop. I’ve heard anywhere from 30 to 90 days for the paint to outgass.

What about washing? Also is Megs Gold Class and Final Inspection safe for new paint?

I stopped using Gold Class years ago. Not enough lubrication.

Gold Class Shampoo and Final Inspection is fine on your new paint.

Someone backed into my car in November, and I had it fixed/painted in early December. I asked the Honda body shop manager how long I should wait before waxing the vehicle, and he said 3 months (90 days). My car is a 2016 lunar silver metallic Honda Accord, but I can't imagine that would be much of a factor in terms of how long to wait before waxing. My guess is that's probably pretty universal for nearly all new paint jobs. As for a wash, though, I didn't ask, but I seem to recall him offering up for me to "wait a couple/few weeks" before washing the car....but don't quote me on that.

Just to chime in....

Wait 30 days from the time of spray and then seal. This is a good rule of thumb but also there's not a single paint manufacturer that recommends sealing "their" paint before at least 30 days air cure.

Here's an article on this topic I wrote back in 2010

Don't wax your car for at least 30 days! (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/hot-topics-frequently-asked-questions/26967-don-t-wax-your-car-least-30-days.html)

And here's one from 2004 o that would be 15 years ago...
