Remove scratches from 4 Star horse trailer? (https://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/ask-mike-phillips-your-detailing-questions-/122371-remove-scratches-4-star-horse-trailer.html)

Anytime I get questions via e-mail, a PM or a FB message I prefer to invest my typing time where

A: It's easier for me to share links, pictures and videos.

B: More people can read and thus benefit from the information. (no just one set of eyeballs)

The reality is, most people that contact me found me via an article I've written or a reply I've written on this forum. The thing is, instead of figuring out that the whole reason they are contacting me is because they found me via an article or answer I wrote on the forum that they to should bring their question to the forum because not only will that help them.... but it will help a future "them". If I answer everything in a private e-mail or other touch point, no one would find and contact me. It's a cycle or pattern that repeats as long as everything is shared in the public domain.

The above is kind of wordy but re-read it slowly and it will make sense.

So I get an e-mail asking,

Hi there,

I saw a newsfeed with your name attached while perusing various online sites to see what to do about tree scuffs and scratches in the topcoat (not into the paint) on my new 4Star horse trailer.

I was told by 4Star to try a Meguairs product but not sure which one or what to expect it to do. There are a couple areas where the decals were even scratched, and of course I care more now than I will later because the trailer is new and doesn’t have a spot on it.

Also, I wasn’t the one who drove it up against any trees! :-(

I would like to make these scuffs and scratches a little less noticeable if possible but not cause more damage. I did try Turtle Wax scratch and swirl remover, and it helped in many places, but I would still like it to look better, as you can still see them. You seemed to be very knowledgeable on this subject so I thought I would just reach out and see if you might have some advice for me.

Many thanks!
Julene

Great questions Julene,

The paint on trailers like this tends to be single stage and VERY thin. I have had great results machine polishing using a product called BLACKFIRE One Step with a foam polishing pad on a simple dual action polisher.

Here's a list of things you'll need.

BLACKFIRE One Step (https://www.autogeek.net/blackfire-total-polish-seal.html)

Griot's Garage 6" Random Orbital Polisher (https://www.autogeek.net/new-griots-polisher.html)

Depending upon the size of the trailer, you'll need more than one pad, I'd suggest getting a 6-pack.

Griots Garage 6 Inch Orange Polishing Foam Pad (https://www.autogeek.net/griots-foam-polishing-pad.html)

You will also need some NICE quality towels to wipe the dried wax off without scratching. I really like these,

12 Pack Forrest Green Edgeless Microfiber Polishing Cloths (https://www.autogeek.net/mf-green-12.html)

I'll create an account for you for this forum and send you your username and password. I don't really answer questions via e-mail as only one set of eyeballs see all the above info like you see above and it takes time to make all of that info magically appear.

Hope that helps and feel encouraged to join our forum, this is where I answer questions. Email and Facebook messaging are okay, but the forum is a LOT more powerful. (think about it - it's how you found me in the first place)
