Badges over CQUARTZ

Hello all, new to the forum. Just picked up a new mustang and have a question about detailing. Going to replace all the chrome badges with black ones. So at some point the vehicle will have all badges removed. At this time I was planning on detailing and ceramic coating the vehicle. My question is, will it be ok to detail and CQuartz UK 3.0 with badges removed and then install the new badges after the CQuartz has cured? Also, how long would you consider it takes for the coating to cure? The vehicle will be in the garage and not sure if the cure time would increase as it would not be seeing the sun. Thanks

Hey welcome. I have a 16 GT and replaced all the badges. I would not put badges on the coating as it is designed to ware. I would polish if you plan to, wipe down with paint prep or alcohol solution to give cleanest surface for double sided tape to adhere. Then coat over( badges too). If your going to black out the badges use the actual ford parts. Cheapest I found for side badges were from CJ pony. I couldn’t find official ford rear badge anywhere except ford so bought a ford “licensed” one from CJ’s. Agree. You want to apply badges, stripes, decals, etc to clean bare paint. Many mention this specifically in the application instructions to ensure the adhesive or tape adheres to the surface properly.

Coating over the badges isn't a big deal, just be sure not to get any runs or high spots in the small areas like between letters etc.

I have a client that tried to install one of those fastback Mustang rear and small side triangle window louvres after I had coated it with PBL glass coating. He kept complaining to the manufacturer that their tape was no good. They sent him 2 sets of replacement pieces before they refused to help him anymore. He then called me to ask about the windows and finally realized why the tape wouldn't stick. I had to polish the glass for him.

Yes as others have said, you need the bare surface for the adhesive to hold. First clean the areas where the badges will go with some rubbing alcohol wipes, then go to your local auto-parts store and pick up a package of adhesion promotion and apply it to where you plan on affixing the badges.

Wait for those to set before doing any polishing, etc.. What I normally do is tape off badges before polishing. The keeps all the dust and product from building inside the badge, and secondly gives me a "rule of thumb" when working around them with a tool.
