New LHR21 & LHR15 Mark III

Any word on when they will be available and are there any differences that are worth it?

People aren't going to really "into" an orbital until it has "more power". Something they can stand on and have it still spin at full whack.

I believe the main differences were:

1. Progressive trigger
2. Longer cord
3. Small ergonomic changes to the chassis

#1 is one of my main dislikes about the Rupes and #3 is kinda a personal thing as I do prefer the 'rounded' ergonomics of the BOSS v Rupes but none of those items either by themselves or in total would make me ditch the Mk2 and pony up likely $420 (or more...it's new!) to address.

I thought there was some slight re-mapping of the motor control module as well but it was kinda dismissed as relatively insignificant.

What I find interesting (Not saying that Rupes Tools are not top notch), but having used Portercable, Dewalt, Makita, etc and the like tools. The power tools that those companies make, the lower end tools with shorter warranties come with motors that need the brushes replaced.

Their more expensive powers tools with longer warranties have brushless motors. Brushless motors heat up less improving the life of the power tool. I can't count the number of times I hear about dissipating heat with Rupes, Flex and the high end polishers.

So no matter how "good" Rupes tools are, why can't they put their twice the cost per tool were their mouth is and take the next step and go brushless? I mean. My other power tools cost half what Rupes tools do and they are brushless. $420 for a polisher with a $25 motor in it.

According to what Elliot posted,

I worked in the RUPES booth at SEMA and had a chance to test out the new Mark III on a demo hood. The trigger is nice and the LARGE speed indicator dial is nice. As for any power advantages it's hard to gauge that when running the buffer over perfectly polished hood.


I know the real test is to buff out a few cars and this way you'll have a real-world experience and thus a real-world opinion.


So looks like March sometime before they start arriving.
