Hi folks,

I have decontaminated my paint yesterday with wolf's iron remover and angelwax nemesis and noticed these stains today, im guessing these are stains from the tar remover but im not sure as i only sprayed on the painted panels, overspray could be possible but i only let it dwell for 5 mins max before rinsing thoroughly.

I have tried meguiars green apc with a brush but didn't do anything, is a magic eraser a good idea?

What parts of the vehicle is that? And no, a magic eraser isn't a good idea. That picture on the right the finish seems to have a lot of texture, what is the substrate?

Hi!

My bad, should of clarified that. The left side is a window rubber and the right side are the plastics around my mirrors, this picture shows underneath but its in front aswell.

Thanks !

Not sure what you're using, but we spray bug and tar on probably 75% of our jobs and spray it right on the mirrors and front. We let it dwell for at least five minutes while we're getting set up to wash. I've never seen anything like that so I'd be very surprised if that's what caused it.

Hmm yeah, ive always used Tarx in the past and ive read that its safe on plastic while the angelwaxs is not, im not sure what it is aswell, however i do think the white staining on the plastic is because the water is ridiciously hard where i live.. weird that it does not come off with strong apc

APC usually won't do anything to dissolve mineral spots, you need a specific (acid) product for that.

This has happened to me once and I can say it’s up there among a detailers worst nightmare.

In my case it also happened when I decided to reach for Bug Remover spray in order to help clean up the front bumper on this vehicle.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181005/4f1a00c12b265ffe2ace60a21584fbcc.jpg

Sure it cleaned the grime off... And I went ahead and sprayed the entire front bumper while I was at it. I followed up with a good rinse with the hose and then a quik wipedown with rinseless wash and moved on to something else...

But when it came time for me to be almost done with the full detail and the car was in direct sun I noticed these crazy streaks on the front bumper and I immediately knew they could be a big problem.

Now the part I’ll never be completely certain about is when and what exactly caused them. I don’t recall seeing them in my pre inspection nor do I have close enough before pics to be able to see if they were already there.. But if I was at fault for causing them it would’ve either happened during the claying, because I doused the hood with D114 and of all times I diluted it with tap water + I was working at night and it’s possible I might’ve forgot to fully dry the front bumper...

The other cause could’ve been because of the Bug Remover Spray. That color is so hard to see even in the pictures and they weren’t noticeable until the car was in direct sunlight.

But I can report that absolutely nothing I tried could remove or bearly even minimize those chalky streaks because they seemed to be permanently etched into the bumper. I tried APC, degreaser, Magic Eraser, aggressive compound compounding, Megs Wheel Brightener, I tried everything!

Customer showed up to pick up the car and I was still busy with the finishing touches i.e. cleaning the windows.. And of all places he decided to stand directly in front of the car while he waited. I felt horrible. I’ll never know for certain whether they were on there before he brought me the car or if I really was at fault for causing them... It was a tough learning experience. Always do a thorough pre inspection, don’t just dive in until you do and take pics too.

...But as far as those streaks, I hate to sound negative but they I doubt you’ll be able to remove them. There was a similar question a few days ago with a guy who etched his gelcoat with degreaser or something.

Eldo, which streaks are you taking about again? Where the plate should be?

They don’t appear in these photos, most likely due to the lighting and the color of the vehicle.

I found a couple of pics that kinda show the streaks/etching...

Finding this picture here offers me a bit of relief. It shows that the streaks were there before I clayed or did anything to the vehicle because this iron decon was the very 1st thing I did to it.
You can bearly see them, but they’re there.. They were way worse in person in direct sunlight.

You can kinda see the weird stuff on the bumper in this pic too.

Wheels were etched pretty bad too, not to mention the barrels were caked & baked hardcore.

It’s good to know the McKee’s Road Kill & Bug Remover wasn’t at fault afterall...

It actually did a real good job. It always does.[emoji1417]

Thanks bud, this fixed the window rubber completely and masked like 70% of the white stains on my mirror plastics. Maybe a trim coating will help alot better, maybe next order :)

Haha! Nice! Have to add multiple coatings when using the trim restorer.
