An observation I’ve just observed

It’s raining and I’m sitting next to the window of a very busy McDonald’s and I’m watching all the cars leaving the drive-through. I’ve seen no less than 25 cars go through and not one car has had beaded rain on it.

Something tells me if I sit here another 30 minutes I’ll come to the same conclusion. It’s mind boggling.

To most people cars are just a appliance. Point A to B. I look at the vehicles at my work parking lot. Only time they get a wash is when it rains. Most people have no time or interest in making their vehicles look good. We are in the 15% that care I would be safe to say.

Exactly, you are expecting everyone else to do what you think is important. I bet they could walk through your life and see many things they find important that you do not. Everyone is different, that doesnt make it wrong. Just live your life and worry about your car.

Similar story except complete 180 in regards to the beading...

A few years back Meguiars hosted a party to celebrate the 10yr. anniversary of Meguiars Online Forum. It was my 1st time ever visiting the Meguiars headquarters in Irvine CA and I showed up about an hour late due to working late + having to make the 45-50min. drive from LA.

Of all the days it happened to rain that night.[emoji943] [it almost never rains in Southern California]

I remember showing up and the parking lot was full so I had to park at the far corner of the lot... As I made the walk through the parking lot I just about laughed out loud because every single car was beading fiercely. Even peoples rental cars were beading! Lol. That’s when you know you’re in the presence of a hardcore group of people who love detailing.
Lots of well known people there that night. It was awesome.[emoji4]

Am I the only one that cleans and apply some kind of product to rental car windshields so that wipers work most effectively?

There's nothing more annoying and dangerous than not being able to see through a windshield when it rains

I work in group of 85 employees. Only one details his car and maybe 2 take their vehicle to a “brushless” car wash. Point A to point B is it ( I told the one car wash attending employee not to do car washes, I even told him I would give him 2 buckets n suppplies at my cost, as he was ruining his brand new black luxury car . I am only a hobbyist but even offered him to wash car every 2 weeks at a fixed cost if he didn’t want the buckets.

Just to jump in...couple months back wife goes to pick out a new car (Subaru). First thing the salesman said when we went back outside (referring to her black 2000 Sub), "WOW! Look at that finish!" Due to the fact I knew she was lookin' at a new car, nothing (except washing and general interior 'kept clean').

It made no difference on trade-in $- it is/was a 2000 and had mid-west rust problems-BUT it does make one feel good when statements like that are directed to and about ya.

So very true. This fact is obvious when I survey the parking lot of the building where I work. Most vehicles regardless of price or age, are dirty, heavily swirled, and probably haven't seen an LSP since they left the dealership lot. The paint is dull and lifeless. Wheels are dark and either corroded or covered in baked-on brake dust.

I can understand not going to mentally unstable levels of detailing like most of us, but most vehicles today are not even getting basic levels of care. To a large portion of the population a vehicle purchase is a significant amount of money and an item which will be kept for a long time. You'd think that would drive at least a little effort to care for the basics, but apperently not.

I’ll play devil’s advocate, people do talk about other’s actions a lot, including my own. As long as they don’t take up my time about it, I don’t let it bother me. I’m sure the McDonalds customers aren’t bugged by the OPs’ observations, which were only that, observations. I notice the same thing all the time and wonder why people treat their $30K+ investments like dirt, but it’s only a thought to myself... I’m not harassing anyone about it. We are all just humans.

also look at the establishment you are at? when you go to places that offer valet service minus casinos, but high end resturants and what not, you generally see the exact oppisite, at least from my experaince with them.

Yep... keep your $30-60K car in the driveway and all the worthless junk in the garage. It's what consumers do, we buy so many things that there's not enough room to store it all, so stuff gets tossed in the garage. I have a 6 month rule (not applied 100%, but as closely as I can), if it hasn't been touched in 6 months, it gets tossed in the goodwill pile or the garbage. Clutter can get on my nerves...
