Applying gelcoat

I guess if anyone has done this it will be someone who works on boats. I've got a guy who scraped the bottom of his scar on fiber splitter. Just trying to get a smooth finish for PPF to hold onto. I know polishing is out because of oils and sanding this material can be hazardous.

I would like to apply gelcoat. Has anyone applied it before?? I assume you spray it on, if so what tip would I use??
