I have a dark blue 2018 Toyota Tacoma and decided to try and get rid of the swirl marks and fine scratches. First I washed and dried, then applied Meguiars ScratchX by hand. Next I used the Meguiars Ultimate polish and finally a coat of wax, all by hand. I notice in the sun that there are still fine scratches? Why would this be? Maybe I didn`t do it long enough or intense enough?

Maybe try Meguiars Ultimate compound.

It can be done by hand but takes a lot of time.

Are you spending enough time per section?
Always good to check your work as you go, that way your not having to do it all over again.

Do yourself a favor and pick up a DA. You can get a GG6 for 150.00. They even sell them at Autozone.
Then figure out where your swirls are coming from, wash and drying technique? Or your free dealership swirl pkg when purchased.
I started out trying to remove defects by hand. It can be done but a lot of work and wasted time.

Absolutely. The only way to get the finish truly perfected is with a machine polisher. The nice thing is with Toyota's soft paint, it isn't very difficult! I use Meguiars Ultimate Polish on a white Lake Country Polishing pad (Flat and Thin Pro) and it corrects out my wife's Highlander quite nicely.
