I already own some basic trim clean and restore products but don't want to use them in the engine bay as I'm not sure if they are oil based or not. I'm wondering if anyone has a favorite trim shine/protect that also does well for the engine bay. Nothing fancy, just something i can spray, brush and wipe. Not attempting for show car shine or results, but just a nice clean and shiny look.

I do not intend to water wash any of my engine bays, but would first use a waterless wash or maybe wolfgang engine bay cleaner. Recommendations here are welcome too.

I've been extremely impressed by Meg's hyper dressing at 2.5:1. Just enough shine to look slightly more than matte, but not enough to look greasy 'used car lot' shiny. Smells good and self-levels too. I believe if you look for my thread on it I posted some pics of my Grand Marquis' engine bay after cleaning and hyper dressing. It works great.

Hell, I've even used it on tires for a quick fix if I didn't feel like doing the full job.

Hyper Dressing or Perl.
I use both.

hmmm looks like i have to buy a big jug of that stuff. Really only need for once a year or so use. I guess I could probably find other uses.

Hyper dressing.

I do have Perl, but honestly Hyper Dressing is VERY satisfactory. Also the price is great!

If you need to spend lower (technically) I’d buy 500ml of Perl at $15.99

But as a Professional Detailer, Hyper dressing does a lot of things well too!

I've had a gallon of hyperdressing for years (just for myself). I love using it in the engine bay, it works great. If I hose down the engine bay for some deep cleaning I will even use it like a rinse aid and spray everything as I dry.

I've started using it in other places, like on the trim in my girlfriend's car, and tires. I even use it around the house for things I have with plastic that have become dull.

Sonus Trim and motor Kote. Blows HD away for engine details and last very long. Once it dries there is no smearing when u run your finger over it like HD thus keeping your engine bay cleaner longer by not collecting dust. I actually wish Sonus would offer this product in the gallon.

Hyper Dressing @1:1 spray & walk away.

Before.

After a very quik wipedown w/APC. Spray wherever you want to it to look nice. [I chose to play it safe and not spray the engine]

After. No wiping, just allow to dry.

I dilute 1:1. IMO user experience and results are greatly diminished at lower dilution ratios.

Sonus Trim and motor Kote. Blows HD away for engine details and last very long.

Hyper Dressing lasts a very long time under the hood... This is before I even sprayed it. It had probably been at least 3 months and it was still looking good.

You’re right about other products possibly being dry to the touch, I can live with that though.[emoji4]

The best? So subjective.

That’s why I sometimes can’t accept; and,
therefore, will often challenge the awarding
of the title: “The Best” when it comes to
detailing products.

But that’s not the case when it comes to CD-2.
It was ”THE BEST” engine detailer. Ever.

thanks all. I might try sonus and hd. I also picked up some mk aerosol that i think might be easier in some spots.
