Hey folks,

At some point in the life of my wife's Forester, the paint started peeling off the wheels. They look pretty hideous. We're giving the car to our son next year, so before then I'd like to strip the wheels down to the bare metal and Plasti-dip them.

What is a good product to strip these wheels? I would prefer to use an eco-friendly product so the runoff doesn't turn the squirrels into mutants. :)

Thanks!

I used some eco stripper once before on furniture, it did almost nothing and I went and bought the good stuff. I'm guessing media blasting is out of the budget? Sand paper is probably the most eco friendly then.

I would paint them over plasti-dip, it will hold up much better. A couple cans of etching primer and 2-3 cans of wheel paint.

Media blasting is not in the budget. Sanding and painting is probably more work then we want to put into a car with 125,000 miles.

For now, I'd just like to chemically strip the wheels to remove the remaining paint. It was my son's idea to use Plasti-dip and he has his heart set on it. Who am I to say no? :)
