64247Hello All. Took my first stab at compounding and polishing using M101 and M102 with a DA and noticed these on the leading edge of my hood. These are what appears to be tiny scratches some looking like stars etc. Me being a total newb I was a little concerned about getting more aggressive without running it by you all. I used an orange pad with M101 and a white pad with M102. Any help is much appreciated. I should mention that this is on the leading edge of my hood.

Looks like crows feet. A sign of clear coat failure. How old is that vehicle? OEM paint or repaired?

did it look like that prior to your process? I see it's a truck, did you drive through some stuff and are they scratches below your clear coat?

Looks like chevy paint when clearcoat starts to fail.

Looks like clear coat failure, my 20 year old beater civic has the same thing on its hood.

Yep 1997 Chevy Silverado. If it was there prior to treatment I didn't notice it. I have a couple of places on the roof where failure is beginning as well. I was afraid that it was beginning to fail. Oh well. Thanks everyone for the response. Do you thing some of the clear bra material will help hold things together for a while. Thanks again.

I bet it was there prior to compounding and you're noticing it now because the white-ish compound/polish has worked its way into the cracks and is highlighting it.

I'd start planning on a repaint for that panel.
