Woohoo! I satisfied my detailing itch this past weekend by coating a friend's new BMW X1 and I finally got a chance to play with CQuartz UK 3.0.

After a full wash I could see there were minimal defects but the paint was rough. A one step polish would be ideal but since I only had the car for a few hours, there was only time for a decon and clay. To get the paint as clean as possible, I did an IPA wipe before doing another wipe down with Gyeon Prep.

Application was cake compared to the original CQuartz UK edition. The original formula required a slightly longer flash time and became grabby and a pain to wipe off if you waited too long. With 3.0, if you work quickly, it's possible to coat two panels and wipe down the first before moving on. Overall it was easy to work with, and it was almost enjoyable. There weren't many high spots and wipe off wasn't terrible. One tip is to use plush microfiber towels with a short nap.

I have high hopes for this coating due to its price and ease of application. We'll see how it holds up on a vehicle that's daily driven and parked outdoors. Thanks for looking!

You'll love it. Mohs goes on easy. The carrier agents / solvents are great and there are really no worries about high spots. The first layer is on a scale of application ease from 1-10 (10 being super easy) is about a 8. The second layer is an 9 but then when you get to Skin, the top layer, it's ridiculously easy, slick and absolutely a joy to work with. Overall, the biggest drawback is needing to apply 3 layers.

I hope to try UK3.0 soon.

Beautiful job !!! I really like CQ UK 3.0. I agree application is much easier compared to the older UK version and removal is definitely easier.

I used UK 3.0 two weeks ago on an Audi R8. Love it! Very nice to work with... same great glossy appearance but easy to use.
Nice work on the BMW!

I saw the car once after some rain and it appeared fairly spotless. Owner reported some nice beading action also.

After a thorough wash, the surface was beading very well. Here she is after topping the paint off with a coat of PA High Gloss. Why not!

Nice work. Neat car. I don’t see many BMW’s around northern WI. I really like those wheels.
