I'll use this thread to document the correction and coating my 1996 Mariah Shabah. While a great 10 footer this boat is now 22 years old and black gelcoat has it's downsides. The goal is to get it decently corrected, then sealed up to avoid further UV damage. We'll also scrub and treat the two covers which are in great shape for being original and do a good clean on the inside as well. I washed and buffed it a bit last year (70%ish) and put a coat of wax on, but when it sits outside 24/7 through a summer and gets beat on every weekend in the water the wax doesn't hold up well.

I brought it home from winter storage and gave it a good wash down:

Again, while a great 10 footer, there are plenty of issues:

Oxidization:

Dock Rash:

I think thin gelcoat and oxidization:

Hard water spotting:

Since its in the 90's here and supposed to rain, this is as far as I'll get today.

Took it inside, wash, synthetic clay treatment, wash again, correct, polish, prep spray from Gyeon and then Moh's.

Correction was M105/M205/Sonax Perfect Finish in various places as needed on mostly 5 inch chemical guys hex pads (white/orange/yellow) and 3 inch SPTA orange pads on a tire 7424XP.

I left a multitude of defects in the gelcoat that I felt I could get out but was scared of getting too aggressive with 22 year old gelcoat. I know the previous owner had it "Buffed" every year and while I don't know what that means I am nervous about how much correction has been done in the past.

Moh's was very easy to apply. Almost too easy, I kept waiting for a pitfall! It went on nice and level, wiped off easily and appears to dry clear and hard. I'll update when I get the layer of "Cure" on but so far so good. If it does what it claims every car we have will get Mohs.

I used a little over 25ml to do this boat twice:

And I think I could have gotten away with less.

Got it out to the lake this weekend and on the water/lift. A few places I could have been more careful in applying Moh's but overall it looks great! Water shedding is impressive on a boat.

Awesome work and boat! It looks great now for the age!! The coating will last a whole lot longer than the wax you used to use...as well as you saw, the hydrophobic properties of coatings are excellent! Well done, and that was a lot of work with a 7424!!

First, thank you very much. I look forward to how much better the boat will look (less damage) after the summer with the coating. I am actively looking to add to my machine lineup.
