So,
I opened up my new GG6” and got to work on the hood of my daughters Altima

Washed first
Then hit it with the Meguiars claybar
Then Griots compound
Followed by Griots AIO polish/wax
Finished up with Meguiars ultimate paste wax.

Came out quite good, swirls and light scratches are gone just some paint chips and a deep scratch left,
Except the hood has small specks that look to be in the paint.

What is it?
Where did I go wrong?

(Tried to take a picture for reference but with my phone all I got was a mirror image of me taking the picture)

Look up “solvent pop”.

It’s not your fault. I don’t think you could cause it to happen by polishing but polishing may reveal it more.

Possibly the hood has been repainted?

The hood has not been repainted we got the car new in 2013.

Googling solvent pop now......

If it's factory paint it's definitely not solvent pop. I've owned every genreation of Altima since they came out and my daughter currently has a 2016.

Really need to see pics to diagnose. Try taking them in a garage or early in am out of sun. What color is it?

The car is black.
I was able to get this picture in the garage.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180514/c70fe83db33a71184e9238440401ad09.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180514/19dc574b1e0330d1dc8848f5f377dd19.jpg

(Man does the camera really show those paint chips. They don’t stand out nearly that bad in person :(

Can you feel them? Could it be some kind of chemical that compromised the clear?

Don't be to sure on the "original paint". Lots of new cars get damaged in transit and they will respray and sell as new. That does look like solvent pop, but hard to tell, I've had what looked to be the same specs on my repainted black hood. Most did disappear for me with a compound/polish.

I don’t fill them with me bare hand but when I pass a microfiber towel over the hood I can fill that there is some thing going on.

When I get really close to it, it looks like really small pitting maybe?

It could also be a start to clear coat failure. I'd have someone take measurements. Hopefully you didn't compound to much...

If I spray and wipe the hood with detail spray (Chemical Guys Synthetic Quick Detailer) I will get trailing streaks from the spots.

The reason I ask is because it seems localized to one area which makes me wonder if something splattered on the hood and ate into the clear.

^That my thought after seeing the pics. Possibly some lovey chemical that someone accidentally spattered onto the hood.

That, or maybe bug droppings/secretions but then it probably would not be so localized.?

Maybe try rubbing it a little more with the AIO to see if it pulls anymore out.

It looks alot like the specs I was dealing with on that black Denali. It was terrifying at 1st glance because it looked like clearcoat failure.

In my case they began to go away with the claybar, and fully went away with a dedicated polish and just a finishing pad.

My 1st thought is maybe the AIO didn’t play well with the sealant [Ultimate Paste Wax]

Or maybe the AIO itself finished off poorly.

It looks a lot like your pic Eldorado2K,

but the specks appear white in the picture but actually don't seem to have any color to them in person. they are quite clear-ish.
