Hey guys, looking to find out what’s the best way to maintain and protect windshield wiper arms on a brand new vehicle.

Some wiper arms are painted while others are plastic so please specify what kind you have in your reply.

The windshield cowl/wiper arms seem to be 1 of the 1st things that begins to fade on a vehicle and it can sometimes be hard to reach or properly treat without the product getting on surrounding areas such as paint and glass, so I’m hoping we can gather up some good ideas to help everyone who reads this.

Btw, I’d like to know what you actually use, not what you think would be best... And if you’ve had any bad experiences with certain methods please mention those as well. Thanks.

Mine are painted, and I use WETS every couple of months, and I just keep it going through the backs of the wipers themselves, as well as the cowl below.

I get great beading and reasonable longevity on the painted parts. Using 1 product for the whole area keeps it simple.

I should add that my car is only 2 years old so I can’t comment much on fading. So far they look brand new. I’m in eastern Canada though so they aren’t getting pounded with sun all year.

I've been using a trim protectant on mine. I think mine are painted as well.

For arms that are smooth metal and painted black I use a spray sealant or the same coating that is used on the paintwork. C2v3, Reload, Bead Maker and CSL come to mind. For arms that are textured plastic, like on my wife's car, I've used Solution Finish, WETS, and various trim/rubber dressings.

I used McKees Plastic Trim Restorer the other day on some while doing the cowl and it darkened them up a bit.

Not sure how long it stay that way.

I use whatever coating I am applying to the whole vehicle on the wiper arms and it is working fine.

Solution Finish when doing the wiper cowl. Every six months as my car sides outside 24/7.

I use Carpro DLUX on wiper arms and cowls (as well as on the trim and wheels) of our cars. Never had an issue and lasts many months.

Mine are black painted metal.

I use 845, and it lasts quite a while. 3 months at least.

It doesn't really change (darken) the appearance, but it has kept them looking the same as when they were new.

Metal arms on both vehicles...Meguiar's UFF.

That's assuming they are not oxidized of course.

I use WETS on the entire arm as I complete all the trim. Then I go back and wipe off any excess. I may do it once every 4-6 weeks or so.

Mine are painted. I use wax on mine 2-3 times a year and they look good. Fleetwax or FK.
