Last year I had a new 2017 Honda Accord Sport SE which was totaled in an accident this year (no one hurt). I've decided to buy a used 2017 Accord Sport SE, but was appalled by the thinness of the pain on my original car and the black used car I'm about to buy. I don't know how Honda gets away with this crime. I took some Mil measurements around the car (I usually use microns) and get around 4.5 mils average. I'm thinking about having the car done with Opti-Coat Pro, can anyone recommend someone in the Boston area???

You could ping Justin At Final Inspection. He’s on this forum.... a bit of a drive from Boston, but if you go to the Show-n-shine section you’ll see why it’s worth calling him.

Thanks LSN and Paul. The far shore of Rhode Island is a fair drive, but I'll consider it. I wish I knew how Honda can get away with this kind of paint and not have customer's complain in droves.
Anybody have micrometer or mil measurements for recent Honda paint??

I have a 17 sport SE but no PTG. The paint chips easy and mars and swirls easy that’s for sure. I used carpro ti02 on mine when new after 7k some miles it’s needing mild correction already.

Factory applied paint is typically anywhere from 3-6 mils- so at 4.5 you are right in the middle. And like others have mentioned- Justin at Final Inspection is the man to go to!

At 3 mils you could sneeze at the paint and it would scratch down to the primer...

I spoke with Justin today, I agree he is highly qualified. It really only makes sense to get a 3 year coating if I do it. I have to weigh my finances. I had totaled the brand new 2017 Accord I got last June and then bought a 2018 Camry SE from the insurance because I no longer fit into the 2018 Accord. The 8 speed transmission in the Camry with a 4 and the terrible, slow throttle response from it and the extreme coffee grinder sounding exhaust above 3,000 rpm (mentioned by all auto magazine reviewers) made the car totally unpleasant to drive. So I sold it at a huge loss after having it only 2 months and got the used low mileage black 2017 Accord Sport SE.

Sweet pick for a car but...sorry...Ugh black in that car...I got the SMR and the paint is ugh too. Looks good but Lordy it’s hard to keep nice. I think the longevity of the coating is irrelevant on that car...unless you got way better washing skills than me, the thing will likely need corrected again in 12 months or less. I don’t see it possible making it 3 years

This doesn’t take anything from Justin cause his work is on point for sure just the whole 3 year thing kills me. If it was the silver or white I could see maybe not being that noticeable over time but the blue, black, both reds are pretty awful in these cars for showing anything.
