Hi All,

I had a question about this spot on my the hood of my black 2017 Subaru WRX. The paint or something does seem to be missing. However, it does not look like the typical small rock chip with the white primer showing. This a large spot about the size of a dime or a bit smaller. Also it feels a bit flakey, if that makes sense, as in the edges of the chip seems to have a little play. My question is, is this a normal rock chip/or could this be paint or clear coat failure? I know its impossible to tell from basic pictures for sure.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180502/7d224e48081903af5f1ad389db5a42e8.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180502/57508bd3879418ef1c21c4867b312ad2.jpg

From the pics, looks like a chip to me.

Question: The little area to the left of the phone reflection.......... Is that a crack in the paint?

Ok, just wanted to be sure.

If that's an isolated defect, and nothing else like that on the paint, I'm going to say (from the pics) that is a rock chip.

It looks like the paint is flaking to me. I have seen a lot of rock chips and they are normally round without jagged edges like yours is. Can you peal it with a fingernail? I mean very easily. If it flakes up easily you have a paint problem and I would take it to the Subaru dealer for an inspection. If it is in fact a chip, look into Dr. Colorchip for a fix.

You should have put a dime down for comparison. If that really is the size of a dime, that's a huge rock chip.

It's about a quarter to half a dime I'd say after taking a look at it again. Unfortunately I have zero change in the apartment [emoji23]
