Dear forum members,

I spent the better part of today doing a friend's 1951 Chevy deluxe coupe. The goal was to clean up this car and make it presentable for sale . I washed the car twice with McKees rinse wash and clayed the car with Griots clay. Next was wet sanding areas of heavy orange peel with Meg papers 1500 and 2500. I then polished the car twice. The first time with Griots fast correcting cream and Griot's micro fiber pads. This removed a ton of oxidation and a large part of the paint defects which were primarily heavy swirls . It also easily removed the wet sanding marks. I then followed with pinnacle XMT #2 on the lake country white pads. The last step was pinnacle XMT 180 paste wax by hand. Windows washed and tires dressed. Interior was a quick wipe down with APC.

My friend was very happy with the work and can now list the car feeling good about it's presentation. Although the car is much older than I am, I could see how cars like this were such a big part of people's lives growing up as teenagers and young adults In the 50's and 60's.

Hi Mike,

Thank you for taking the time to write and share the pics. Much appreciated. Yes the car is indeed VERY large. I would say there was just as much surface area (maybe more?) than a full size SUV (e.g. Tahoe or Suburban). The car also has a significant amount of curves in it (hood and fender especially) not to mention a boat load of chrome.

It was an enjoyable project for sure, and I was happy the owner was happy. That's most important.
