Experiences with PDR

There’s been a dent on my trunk lid ever since I got my car. I’ve been looking into PDR recently, and I was wondering what everyone’s experience with PDR is.

Good? Bad? Indifferent?

That’s the dent in question. I messaged a mobile PDR place in my area, just one so far, and their quote to fix it was $245

I’ve looked at one other place that came up when I googled PDR in my area. Their prices started somewhere around $100 for most dents (I’d have to double check, tbh.)

No issue with paying 245, just for some reason seems higher than I’d think. Admittedly, I know nothing about PDR.

My car had hail damage when I bought it. I used PDR and every dent came out perfect. I happily endorse PDR. The only thing to remember is that PDR is like Detailing as it takes an experienced PDR person to get the best results. My guy had over 25 years of PDR experience.

$245 for one dent is definitely on the high side. However, that dent is in one nasty spot. I cannot quite tell the extent of it based on your photo, but I would prepare yourself to expect less than perfect. I’m sure a good pdr guy can get it close, but based upon my experience (former pre-owned manager) that will be tricky. Best wishes.

Yeah, it's definitely not in the most convenient of areas. I assume a panel like that having multiple layers of material would be problematic vs something like.. a door, or fender.

I have a PDR expert that only works for people in the trade. He works for new car dealerships and body shops. I found him from a Mercedes body shop. I would say $245.00 is high compared to my guy.

I looked around for PDR last year and 125$ for the first dent was the price I found. Then it was like 25$ per additional dents if more than one needed to be repaired. So you might want to shop around, prices may vary a lot. Also, having a look at their portfolio would not be a bad idea.

I've had good experience with PDR and hail damage on a couple different cars over the years. Both times you could not see the dents after the work was accomplished.

I'm surprised a PDR technician would even attempt a dent in the location shown in the OP's pictures. Being on a crease/curve like that may be really hard to pull out. In one of the two times I mentioned, they wouldn't try to pull a dent that was on a crease or complex bend of a panel.

I have had PDR done on two separate occasions, with excellent results both times. One was a wrinkle on a body line on the hood of a black Denali. This guy was really good, you could not tell there was ever any damage.

From what I think I see in that picture, the damage appears to be a bit extreme for PDR. I'd be a little skeptical.

My brother-in-law owns a bodyshop and I've used his PDR guy with great results... but never on anything as bad as what your picture appears to show.

Have you asked a body shop what they would charge for the repair using conventional body shop techniques?

I'd use that as a reference point, not what other PDR techs would charge, or what people would like to pay. I'd wager a body shop will be *higher* than $245.
