Porsche 930 Slantnose Turbo, Bella Macchina

Bella Macchina is Italian for "Beautiful Car/Machine" so I guess the appropriate title for this one would be Schöne Maschine, which is German for the same. I have prepared several cars for this client for competition concours, and he has a special place in his heart for this very cool Porsche Turbo.

It is a 1988 model, fully loaded with the Slantnose opition, that pushed the window stick above 100K, in 1988! I am very lucky to have a select client base which demands 100 percent from each piece of machinary I am lucky to touch.

This Porsche recieved our Perferizone Finitura (Perfect Finish) exterior package, with our Trono del Re Primo interior package (King's Throne Plus) which includes a full leatherique treatment to soften and restore the aged leather.

The car was washed with Optimum Car Soap(with a light mix of Meguiars' APC) in a foam gun, then clayed with Sonus Grey Clay using Pinnacle Clay Lube as the lubricant before being rewashed with Optimum Car Soap. The rims where sprayed with P21s Wheel Gel and left to dwell during the clay process, before being aggitated with a boars hair wheel brush and rinsed clean. The tires and wheel arches (I'm going for the British thing :D) where scrubbed with a 8:1 mixture of Meguiars APC.

After blowing dry with a leaf blower and blotting the remains with a Water Guzzler, we inspected the paint in the sun. There was a lot of light swirling (not uncommon in the soft Porsche single stage enemal) and several deeper scratches running from the nose to the back, as well as a fair amount of RIDS.

Tight areas and trim pieces where taped off on the edges using 3M blue painters tape...

Luckly I had my better half, Brian along to work some of his concours magic on the original interior surfaces and fabrics. The interior was vacummed and the floor mats and removable carpet pieces where hand scrubbed using a mixture of different APC's and shampoos.

Floor boards under the carpets where vaccumed and treated with Jeff Werkerstatt Prime and a coat of Meguiars' #16.

Stains and built up grime was removed by Brian using a combination of Folex, Stoner's Carpet, and Meguiar's APC.

Brian also dusted the dash with a variety of Edge foam swabs, cotton swabs, and various boars hair brushes, using Meguiar's Quik Interior Detailer when necessary.

As Brian worked on the interior, I started polishing the exterior by compounding the scratches and polishing out the haze. I used Menzerna PG and 3M Extra-Cut Compound of the heavy defect removal, using various LC and Shlegal Twisted Wool Pads, and removed the haze using Meguiars #83 on an orange LC pad.

After each step the paint was wiped with 50/50 and inspected, and paint readings where taken. To ensure a perfect finish, I believe it is necessary to fully inspect the paint after each step to make sure that all oils (which can act as fillers to mask your progress) are removed and that we are headed in the right direction.

Brian got started on the Leatherique treatment by applying Rejuvinator Oil by hand and working it into large amount of hide in the interior.

Dual Action, Brian on the inside and myself still polishing out the scratches on the front... Meg's #83 did mask the paint slightly, resulting in a slightly better then true appearance that would still need further refinement.

Brian finished with the carpets by scotch guarding them and resinstalling them. The interior plastics and rubbers (as well as rubber rim, gas, clutch, and brake metals) where lightly cleaned with Poorboy's APC and treated with 303 Aerospace protectant...

We took a brief 15 minute break while the Leatherquie backed on the seats. When we returned, it was getting a little later, so Brian got to work removing the Rejuvinator Oil by using Prestine Clean and dressing the dash with 303 to fight fading.

As we where losing light, the Porsche was pulled in the garage and under the halogen's. Brian grabbed his Makita to speed up the process, and I got to work with the 4 inch pads, using yellow, orange, white, and blue to refine and perfect the tigher areas and bends, while Brian finished the paint using FP on gray and blue pads...

After polishing was finally complete, the paint was inspected, then washed with Zaino Z7 in a foam gun using de-ionized water and blown dry.

2 coats of Zaino Z5pro where applied using the ZFX acclerator to ensure proper bonding...

Finally we pulled the Porsche back into the garage, and gave the paint a final wipe down with Zaino Z8.

I would say that 90% of half of the car we do, we charge between $1 and $20,000k... Sorry I'm in a goofy mood, and if Brian sees this, he will flip out. :D

Sorry I was kidding about the prices (I was trying to be goofy). I have never charged 20k for a detail...

Our correction starts at 500, most of the cars we do are between 1k and 2k
