Anybody deal with HIDs? Trying to figure out if I have a bad bulb. Less then a year old. Inside of the middle bubble looks burned. 61762

I've had many HIDs with black bubbles that still worked, but if it isn't working and you have checked all the ballasts, then it could be a bad bulb. HIDs are weird sometimes.

I replaced the ballast and igniter. It still works but output is bad. The igniter went out 2 weeks ago during really cold weather. Kind of flickered then went out. So I wonder if it caused the bulb to get weird.

Yea, that sounds like a bad bulb. I've had ballasts kill what ever bulb I put in in less that 2 weeks as well. What brand did you get?

Weird. The mopar electrical systems are definitely difficult but everything still works except the light output is terrible right now.

I just emptied it, sorry. Did you need to use relays for your installation?

I am kind of HID nuts when it comes to car lightening.I retrofitted the headlight in my 2012 crv and installed high end HID system..learned my lesson after trying cheap stuff from ebay and amazon..they wont last longer..If you are using 55w ballast get 35w one...55w ballast will put out more heat and it will damage the headlight and housing..

It’s a not necessarily a bad bulb.

One of the most golden and obvious rules is- Never touch is with your hands as oils from your body cause premature burnout.

Also, if your lights ever flicker, swap ballasts if possible. To diagnose the issue. Also always swap out hid (and halogen) bulbs in pairs.

I’ve run every hid bulb out there from Philips, Osram, Kensun, Xentec, Morimoto, GTR, etc etc. and man I’ve messed around from 3k-8k in various forms and I’ve learned so much. Being also a part of TRS forum, there’s wealth of information on there too.

In short terms, HIDs have come a long g way, but I’m a firm believer in NOT getting cheap crap, so much QC issues with them it’s not even worth it, not to me. But my OCDness far surpasses most.

Feel free to PM me if you need further help or diagnosis.
