2017 Chevrolet Camaro SS
3LZ, Automatic
18,000 miles

I had corrected and ceramic protected this vehicle almost exactly one year ago. Since then it has seen a trip to the body shop for some minor damage that was done to it at the dealership…
This little trip inflicted major damage to the previous work I had done to this black beauty. It was FULLY covered in swirls, scratches, sanding marks, marring, and the front end where the work was done was completely covered in holograms, and all sorts of nastiness. It was sad to see it in this poor shape.

In comes the ‘doc’ at Autodermatology for a little dermabrasion to rectify this hack work from the body shop.

The vehicle received a 2BW, clay, decon, 3 stage polish, and a ceramic coating.

2BW with Adam’s shampoo and micro-chenille mitt.
Decon’d with McKee’s37 iron remover.
Clayed with Medium Griot’s mitt.
Wheel cleaner, Adam’s.
Tire cleaner, Adam’s.
Wheels were sealed with Hydro2.
Tire dressing, HD tire.
Machines: Flex 3401, Rupes MkII21, Rupes 3” and iBrid.
Paint readings compliments of DeFelsko.
Compound/Polish-Blackfire.
Finishing polish/prep for coating-BEEDS Prime.
LSP, 1 coat BEEDS HD, 1 coat BEEDS ELX.
Windows, Blackfire glass cleaner.
Vacuum, Metro.
Misc. MF towels.
Misc. MF and foam pads were used.
Interior: McKee’s37 Fast Interior.
Engine bay-Adam’s APC, and Blackfire tire/trim.

The vehicle came out very well. I had some paint thickness challenges in some areas and could not ‘go any further’ as I would have liked.
End result, my client is thrilled and she is very happy to have her Camaro looking proper again!

Thanks for looking!

Superb workmanship as we all have come to expect from you Scott. Bravo! :props:

Man, they really done a number on that huh. You would think after almost half a century of doing this crazy detailing thing, that I wouldn’t get so pi55ed off with body shops doing this sort of thing but hey, there ya go - I’m all upset! :bat: Job security I guess but geeze!

Sure came out looking real sweet, digging the reflection shots & the transformation of the wheels is awesome. Thanks for sharing mate, great work. :props:

Random question time - is there a beauty therapist in the family Scott?

Great job on correcting the mess the Body Shop made........
Can't let my Wife see this.
Her 2012 Yellow Camaro needs some work before we head to Florida in March but it has been sub-zero here with snow..........

Great Job :-)

I would have called that unacceptable and billed the body shop for the work. Does anyone that does paint work know how to use a rotary?

Incredible recovery.

Just curious, did the customer pay you out of pocket? I'd have demanded that the body shop pay for that. I'm sure that would go nowhere, but I'd be irate. I just cannot understand how body shops cannot see that mess.

:iagree::iagree:

But to quote Scott and his first paragraph his post:

"I had corrected and ceramic protected this vehicle almost exactly one year ago. Since then it has seen a trip to the body shop for some minor damage that was done to it at the dealership…"

So based upon that it sounds like the dealership damaged the car and sent it to the body shop for repair. If that was the case the dealership should definitely be responsible for the cost to restore it to it's original beauty.

And you are right about the majority of body shops. The sad thing is they think they know what they are doing too when it comes to paint polishing and detailing.

Great job Scott!!!

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the comments!

Aaryn: Nope, why do you ask? LOL, really curious!

Yep, it's a shame that it had that much damage done to it at a place that was fixing damage! I was blown away by what the lights uncovered...hence so many defect pictures! They are amazing...in a good way to visually show what is going on.

Yes, the owner is going to have the dealership pay for the 're-do' that was necessary after their accident with the vehicle and their secondary accident of farming it out to that body shop! (with horrendous QC)

It's a testament to your skills you were able to fix it and not only fix it, take it to the next level. That dealership should be thanking you big time!!!

Haha, Ooops sorry. I was dating a beauty therapist for a few years & things like "dermabrasion" & a product label "dermalogica" (which has a very similar font & design as Autodermatology) were things I just picked up & when you mentioned "dermabrasion" I thought of "microdermabrasion" (where you get the skin on your face burnt off essentially) & I thought there may have been a connection there somewhere. I guess we kinda are "beauty therapists" in a way, just our clients are cars instead. :buffing:
