View Full Version : What are the best 5 and 5.50 pads to use with Rupes Duetto?

I just added a duetto to my collection after eyeing it for a month or so. The say it has a 5 inch backing plate and should be used with 5.50 and 6 inch pads but Rupes only makes 6 inch pads for it. Would I be better off using something like the force flex 5.50 pads or the thin pro 5.5 inch pads?

I want to use it for curved panels so I feel like the thinpros would not be good for this application. But I'm a little concerned about the force flex pads bogging down since they are so thick. You think I should use something in the middle like regular flat pads?

Best rotation I’ve seen is with RUPES 6” Pads and Buff and Shine 6” pads, Uro-Tech and Uro-Cell.

Note the B&S pads are same size and shape of RUPES pads.

Ok those are the ones I have. Just to clarify is the duetto free spinning the same way as the gg6 is free spinning? It just has a larger throw correct?

That is correct.

I've owned one since they first came out. It's my favorite over all polisher becasue of its size and weight and over all ergonomics. But it will still "bog down", especially on curved panels.

Since I already had them I've started using my Griot's 5.5" BOSS pads on my Duetto and really like them.

Nice thanx I have those 2. Yeah I know you like it a lot. I'm hoping it won't bog down as much as the g15. Plus I noticed I do get tired if I use the flex for too long

Been able to use my Duetto on a black 69 Camaro I'm doing the finishing work on. I'm really liking this tool. It's smooth and comfortable. And it has the power to knock out tracer sanding marks, holograms and finish nicely. I am using it with BOSS microfiber cutting pads, Rupes yellow pad and black LC pro thin pad.

I really want a nice 5 1/2" pad to use with it?

I was using Scholl Concepts 3” pads on my Mini and when I used the Rupes 4” I noticed considerable improvement in rotation.

Give the Mille pads a try on the Duetto, I haven’t tried them on a Duetto yet but I think they just might work.

It is a great tool for sure. I washer modded mine as well and corrects well. The Rupes yellow pad is indeed nice.

The Rupes 6" pads don't quite measure out to 6" if I remember correctly. The Velcro fits on a standard 5" d/a plate which doesn't literally measure 5", as it's just under.

You'll be ok with the Rupes pads. Outside of that the Lake Country HDO are really nice, and are just a hair smaller at the pad face than the Rupes pads.

If they came out with Rupes Duetto Mark II, I would have JUMPED on it! The Duetto’s ergonomics and smoothness cannot be beat, but it definitely lacks torque more times than not.
