The car was painted in a barn. It was dry sanded and a quick buff was done. Problem was it was poorly done at all levels, paint, dry sanded (pigtails and tracers) incomplete buff out.
I ended up having do everything all over starting with buffing out the paint and polish at the end. This was a difficult paint correction---hard to remove dry sanding areas and to finish down the soft and recent paint job (2 1/2 months old paint)

Did several tests. Rupes blue/blue, Rupes ultra fine/white, Rupes UHS and Rupes yellow/yellow. I was hoping for a one step process using Rupes UHS---no dice. Took too long and it didn't finish out the dry sanded areas. I was also surprised to see that Rupes ultra fine polish actually dulled the paint after the compounding step! This indicated super soft paint. The Rupes yellow/yellow saved the day!

Process:
Rinse-less wash McKee's N-914
Clayed bar
Compounded using Rupes Blue/blue pads
Polished using Rupes Yellow/yellow
No wax or sealant since paint was too fresh and soft.

It was one of the harder details due to the disorganized process by the last person who "buffed" out the paint. I spent about couple hours chasing my tail around and around!
I'll be going along fine with the UHS then hit dry sanded spot. Stopped, backed up, break out the compound & Rupes blue/blue, correct said dry spot and then go back to UHS. And then hit another dry spot. I finally wised up, threw in the towel and just started with compound and did the whole thing over. Easier and much faster...

Took me 13 hours to do the whole thing! 6 hours compounding and 7 hours to polish. Geez, this was supposed to be a simple 4-6 hour job.

Good thing is, I really learned a lot re fresh paint and the effects of different polishes on it. Eye opener! I am soooo much better now than I was before re nature of paints.

My childhood friend had a Mercury Marquis in that color that had a really bad single stage paint. Think it was build at that modell?

Beautiful work, Tommy! Even though it was challenging to correct sounds like a great experience. It's those tough jobs that sometimes teach us the most.
