Paint imperfections

I️ purchased an older s10 about 9 months ago. I’ve been fixing little things on it for the past couple months (mechanical stuff).

So I️ finally got it to where I️ could clean it up. It has this stuff for lack of better word all over the paint. The worst of it is on the hood and the roof.

I️ have washed, clayed numerous times. Attempted to polish it out with M105 and a product from pace heavy cut compound used my griots DA and and old rotary craftsman I️ still happen to have, Wet sanded. It still won’t come out or whatever.

I️ have the rest of the truck looking good but just can’t get this up to par.

I recently painted a camper top for it and it turned out better than I thought so I️ have some paint left over so my thought is to respray the hood.

I️ thought I would ask here and see if someone had some thoughts. The guy I️ bought it from said he parked it under a tree for a while. Don’t know what kind of tree.

I’m not worried about exact paint match if I️ repaint it. Or a perfectly smoothe finish.

To me this just takes away from any detailing I️ do to the rest of the truck

Thanks sorry so long winded

Hi Steve,

Welcome to AutogeekOnline! :welcome:

When you posted this, 11-11-2017, 03:49 PM or Saturday, November 11th, I was unable to reply as I was teaching my roadshow car detailing class in Coloraso, this one,

So apologies for the delay...

As to the problem with the paint, the unknown substance on the hood and roof, sounds like you've taken the normal practical approaches to remedy the problem to no avail. I think wet sanding would lead to eventually burning or buffing through the clearcoat and causing you to have to repaint.

Maybe a plastic razor blade could "help" to scrape or pry off the offending substance. If it's tree sap of some form, then I've had good luck with Tar X and other solvents like this.

In the end - might just have to repaint.

No problem. Thanks for taking the time to answer.
I might try wetsanding again
The odd thing is the paint surface feels smoothe but those imperfections are there.
I think I’ll wet sand and try. If I burn through the paint. I’ll just get it resprayed. Or I may try
It just seemed odd that the surface was smoothe but you can see those marks. Not knowing the past history it’s hard to say
I did try some Bug and tar remover I had. But it was just cheap stuff.

Thanks again for your help
