Are there uses where a quality cotton towel is better then using microfiber?

IMO yes.
When cleaning leather interior.
Cleaning carpet & matts.
Steam cleaning.

I use cotton terry on glass. I find that whatever linting occurs is blown off rather quickly, whereas mf lint tends to stick. Now, if you're using top shelf mf for glass, then you won't have that problem. I also think cotton terry is better for bugs, grime, etc. You can scrub hard without the towel grabbing the glass.

Just my opinion and what works for me.

I think Mike P recommends them for rubbing in Megs #7 to old paint too.

When I eat something sloppy like BBQ ribs I prefer cotton to microfiber to wipe the mess.

All great suggestions. I forgot how much I liked cotton on leather. I need to go back to that.

Cotten terry towels have more 'bit' than MF towels. They work great when you need to dig into carpeting or leather to remove a stain, or as others have suggested, for working Meg's #7 into single stage paint.

I have always and still use 100% cotton flannel cloth to hand polish.

Q. When is Cotton better than
Microfiber (ie: polyester/polyamide)?

{A. Is there really such a thing?
Instead, I'll just say:
"Down with cotton #######"!!!}

The way I look at it, I have two tools. If I had to choose only one I would go with MF but I have both. I'm just looking to see when I might pull out the cotton and why.

I'm curious, what brand of cotton flannel cloths do you use?
