I personally owned a 2012 Candy White GTI, and the paint is very hard. To clean up light swirls on it, I was using Meguiar's M105/205 combo with a final wax coat of Wolfgang Fuzion, but any wax/sealant will make it look good if the polish is done well. I use Megs maroon/yellow thin pads, too. I have since switched to Jescar compound/polish/sealant, and for a white car like that, I think it would be a better solution to the hard VW paint.

Yes, Candy White is a 2-stage paint with a clear coat.

Usually single stage white is one of the hardest paints, but a test spot will let you know for sure.

The problem is it is impossible for someone to look at swirls and know how deep they are, and therefore how much paint would need to be removed to remove all the swirls. Also, your expectations for the end result may not be the same as the next person.

So instead of going into the detail with a pre-conceived idea of what level of aggression you will need, rather have on hand a finishing polish, a medium cut polish and a compound.

Start with your finishing polish and do a test spot and see what the results are. If you have not removed enough swirls, step it up to a medium cut polish and repeat your test spot (on a new section). Again, if you are not satisfied, step up the aggressiveness to a compound.

I hope you have a PTG to get thickness readings before your start, so you know how much paint can safely be removed, which may limit how aggressive you can get.

I have detailed 55 VW's, of which 13 were a candy white variant and can say that whilst on the whole VW paint is on the harder side, I have encountered a couple that were soft, and Candy White definitely seems to be a tougher to correct than some of the others.... BUT.... again.... this is not a rule, and so the test spot is critically important.

My gut feeling is you will probably NOT correct swirls with a finishing polish, but quite often a medium cut polish is all that is needed. You obviously want to try and avoid compounding if possible, to preserve as much clear coat as possible. But again, my idea of light swirls, and the expected level of 'perfection' required by me or my clients may be vastly different from yours, so test spot, test spot, test spot!!!!

All contemporary VWs are clear coated. They don't do single stage paints anymore and haven't at least since the MKIIIs in the late 90s.

Oops, not sure why I thought he was saying it was SS, but then again I'm not really sure what he is trying to say.

Dragan, what product are you trying to find a manual for?
