Good evening to everyone. A small back story. I do not do this as a profession. Part time on weekends. Therapist by profession during the week. The knowledge gained from this forum has been invaluable in our endeavor to soothe the "My Precious"... in us that loves shiny paint (Lord of the Rings... lol) I have been detailing to some degree since I was a kid. 42 now.#

So, we mainly work on family and friends with in between some for money, which, without you guys I never would've even considered at this stage in my life for a small supplemental income. Weekend fun if you will...

I've made a few comments here and there on the forum but this is my first before and after... my only regret is on this particular one I didn't get a photo of a 50/50... good before and afters but darn that one 50/50!

Thanks again to all those that share your hard work and knowledge with us...

On to the car: 2017 Toyota Camry

This car had 4 miles on it when the client bought it. It was terribly swirled to begin with. She had them take it back for a day and 'fix it' and they... as you folks may know... put more swirls and scratches in it that there was before. Topped with a nice hologram on 2 panels.

She almost didn't purchase the car. Her husband approached me and asked if I could help. I said I think so. We agreed on a 2 step or 1 step (depending on if you include the LSP as a step or not....lol#)

They went with a wheel coating and paint coating as well since it was new.#

It went something as follows:

Rinse
Foam cannon bath with Torq foam cannon and Meguiar's Gold soap
2 bucket wash with CG Citrus
Tires & Wheels Cleaned and tires coated with Griots and wheels coated with CG Top Coat
Clayed with Mother's Synthetic Clay 2.0 and CG Stripper Scent Soap (in a bucket of clean H20) for lubricant... it had very few miles so we elected not to use Iron-X
Dryed with a double 'sewn' super crazy soft towell... like 2 big soft microfiber towels sewn together... (sorry... not sold here at AG)
Blew out the cracks and wheels and tires with the 'ol air compressor and rubber tipped gun... helps a little
HD Speed
CG V38 Polish
5.5" Orange Lake Country Thin Pros Cutting Pads
5.5" Orange Buff & Shine Pads
5.5" White Buff & Shine Polish Pads
3" Orange Lake Country Cutting Pads
Microfiber Hand Polish/Wax Pads
IPA Wipe Down--Sorry... no Eraser-type product yet
McKee's 37 Paint Coating--Old Formula

Overall, the car was fun to work on. Didn't want the inside worked on. It was okay. There were 2 panels, the 2 with holograms, the needed the extra polish and all I think #I had was the V38. The pads, really didn't matter but the Thin Pros seemed to leave a little more, left a slight haze after correction with the HD Speed. The Buff & Shine didn't seem to do it as badly... who knows?## # The polish cleaned up both panels nicely though.#

The coating was a challenge for me. Not really due to the product but maybe more a lack of knowledge with product/coatings. I'm a wax guy myself.

It went well Flashed and buffed off a little harder than I've read others type about. Also, just for my sake, I work out of my garage at home. I have 2 window A/Cs and they were on. When I pulled the car out, it was warm that day, the whole car looked horrible. Took a lot of careful wiping. My thoughts are condensation or not allowing coating to cure long enough before changing the temperature?.?.?

So here are the pics provided they load okay... any feedback is welcome and thanks for checking it out...

My internet out here on the farm in rural Indiana isn't the greatest so forgive me if these somehow don't post...

Here we go...

Peace

Sorry about first 2 pics. Those were already on AG server and didn't carry over I guess. It was just an outside shot of the car pre wash.

Nice job! Im sure the customer was stoked! How did you correct the less than perfect finish with the coating? Just wiping or did you have to polish and re-apply?

Hi. Thanks a lot... it had nothing on it when it came to me except scratches. Lol. I used the HD Speed all around. IPA wipe after all that they put the Mckees on. Seemed to turn out well. It was my very first one. I tend to favor the waxes and sealants but that's just me... Lol

Lol I am totally with you on waxes and sealants. Coatings are out of my comfort range right now, something about them being semi permanent gives me anxiety incase I miss a high spot. Lol Great job on your first coating though, it looks amazing!

Thanks bro. I totally agree. My thoughts exactly. I think I'll stuck to those for now. It was a learning experience so it's all good. [emoji111]

Definitely looks good. But I'm curious as to why you used an AIO (HD Speed) prior to applying a coating? I know your said you did an IPA wipe down, but I personally wouldn't coat after an AIO.

Thanks. Well to be honest the husband asked what would make it shiny. I said the speed would look great but that from what I saw a coating tended to loomed like dipped candy while a great wax would shine but also be rich and deep... he just opted for the coating look instead I think. Like I mentioned I'm still partial to a good wax... [emoji41]

Very good point.

It's doubtful the ipa removed the Poxy in the Speed in which case the coating most likely bonded to the Speed/Poxy and will not last long since it didn't have a clean surface to bond to.

HD Speed is not something I would personally use before applying a coating, I'd stick with a dedicated polish or Essence if using an Si02 based coating.

Nice work on it.

You just may want to consider that in the future.

Yeah but what hes saying is the AIO leaves a wax behind. You shouldn't have put wax on the car before coating. An IPA wipe down doesn't remove wax. That may be why you had problems with the coating.

Edit: i see this was already covered

Nice job on the Camry. Nice write-up and documentation.

4 miles, do you/they live next to the Toyota plant that built the Camry?:)

Please help/diagnose us with our obsessions of keeping our cars spotless. With two young kids and two of my three cars parked outside, I've actually learned to not obsess about perfection. It gives me an excuse to wash my cars more often. Detailing is one of the ultimate "zen" like states where I tend to not think about anything but my task at hand.

Which Griots tire product did you use?
