Whats up everyone! It's been crazy over here the last month or so. Kind of feast or famine this time of year - monsoon season rolls in and one week we are packed to the gills and the next it's just kind of easy going.
Well, last week was one of those "packed to the gills" weeks.
It started out with a call from New Mexico (one state over from us) with a gentleman who just purchased a Mercedes S550....in black. He was wanting paint correction and CQuartz Ceramic coating (http://www.windowsandwheels.com/auto-detailing.html) done and arranged to drive it out here to leave it with us for a week.
At the same time we had a new Camaro SS contact us for correction, coating and clear bra - and then to top it off a long time client of ours wanted to have his Cadillac ELR (yeah, ELR) re-polished and re-coated since it had been a few years since we'd last done it. Lots of fun in the W&W shop for that week - so lets get things started.
The first one to be completed was the SS. Brand new but as usual with black, it had plenty of paint defects (sanding marks, buffer trails etc).

Since she'd already had a partial clear bra done earlier in the day - we first had to tape it up to protect the clear bra edges from polish build up and of course do the same with the decals.

The owner was only wanting a 1-step polish (what we call our Stage One) and then protected with CQuartz Classic. HD Ultra Polish with a Lake Country white Force pad on the Rupes 21 ended up being the best combo. It cut a significant amount of the defects out and finished down very nicely which on black, with a 1 step, is super important.

Shop was blacked out so we were sure to be able to see if anything was hazing during the process.

A little view of what was being worked on all at once. Not being covered in this write up is the C7 Stingray that was hiding under the sheets (it had already been polished and coated with CQuartz Professional). Back in the polishing room was the previously mentioned S550....later nicknamed "Spawn of the Hell Beast" due to its insanely hard to finish down paint and of course up front was the SS.

Oh yeah...it was really really...really hot that week! Frequent stops to the water cooler and refrigerator were required!

A little glossy goodness coming in there, but still more work to go. Rupes 75 pneumatic and iBrid Nano were very much so required for the small work.

Oh oh...whats this....is that some shiny sexy black paint. You bet it is. This was after the polishing was completed, paint was wiped down with Eraser and CQ Classic was applied. Dripping wet? You damn skippy it was!

Suntek Ultra paint protection film laid down on the front end of this nasty sounding beast. Rock chips wont stand a chance. Bugs wont stand a chance! Atomic bombs....ok atomic bombs probably have a pretty good chance.

This baby was lined up for a Stage 2 correction (one full compounding step followed by a final polishing step). Yeah...thats what it was lined up for...we ended up getting in a bit deeper than that lol.

Into the polishing bay it goes! Now of course our goal is to cut out as many defects as possible with the compounding step and then finish it down to a haze free finish with the polishing step.
We did however make the mistake of going a BIT too aggressive with the compounding step...which led to life being hell during the finishing step. However, we were still going to finish this damn thing down
like a mirror if it killed us.

We started to drive ourselves a little crazy and thought we were seeing a bit of marring left over...when there really wasn't...but we did another polishing step anyway just because lol.
So this thing really ended up getting 3 steps. Cut with Meguiars M100, Polished with HD Ultra Polish and then a final FINAL polish with Carpro Essence.

There was however a light at the end of the tunnel. For a while we thought that light was a train...and we were right the first few times. But after being run over with that train and considering suicide or the good ole match in the gas tank approach, we decided to just keep polishing and praying!
Finally, finally FINALLY...we were ready to coat this thing. This was after being re-washed, wiped down with eraser, re-inspecting the paint and hoping no towel marring was induced (which it wasn't thank goodness) and then the lighting of a candle and chanting ancient Buddhist mantra's in appreciation of this great moment!

Much thanks again to the Port-a-cooler in the back. While it was still hot, it was no where near as bad as it was when that thing was broken for a week!
Now while we would have loved to have shown some before and after shots of the ELR...it did not happen unfortunately. We did however get some really sweet after shots. It also received a Stage 1 Polish and CQuartz Professional - along with wheel repair, wheel coating and leather coating on the inside.

However, the owner did come back the next day! He was actually nice enough to bring us lunch and also wanted to grab some maintenance supplies to take with him before heading back to New Mexico.
It had unfortunately sprinkled just a LITTLE BIT before he arrived - so these sun shots were not 100% ideal, but they were still pretty good.

So, there we have it. Lots of fun on some sexy cars that week. We had a few others in between...the C7 seen under the sheets above and then a mini van! Yes, we coated a mini van damn it. But you know what, the owner has had us coat 3 of his vehicles over the past couple of years and needless to say, he loves the benefits of staying cleaner longer and being easier to clean. So the Mini Van got a light polish and CQ Classic.

Since she'd already had a partial clear bra done earlier in the day - we first had to tape it up to protect the clear bra edges from polish build up and of course do the same with the decals.

The owner was only wanting a 1-step polish (what we call our Stage One) and then protected with CQuartz Classic. HD Ultra Polish with a Lake Country white Force pad on the Rupes 21 ended up being the best combo. It cut a significant amount of the defects out and finished down very nicely which on black, with a 1 step, is super important.

A little view of what was being worked on all at once. Not being covered in this write up is the C7 Stingray that was hiding under the sheets (it had already been polished and coated with CQuartz Professional). Back in the polishing room was the previously mentioned S550....later nicknamed "Spawn of the Hell Beast" due to its insanely hard to finish down paint and of course up front was the SS.

A little glossy goodness coming in there, but still more work to go. Rupes 75 pneumatic and iBrid Nano were very much so required for the small work.

Oh oh...whats this....is that some shiny sexy black paint. You bet it is. This was after the polishing was completed, paint was wiped down with Eraser and CQ Classic was applied. Dripping wet? You damn skippy it was!

Suntek Ultra paint protection film laid down on the front end of this nasty sounding beast. Rock chips wont stand a chance. Bugs wont stand a chance! Atomic bombs....ok atomic bombs probably have a pretty good chance.

This baby was lined up for a Stage 2 correction (one full compounding step followed by a final polishing step). Yeah...thats what it was lined up for...we ended up getting in a bit deeper than that lol.

Into the polishing bay it goes! Now of course our goal is to cut out as many defects as possible with the compounding step and then finish it down to a haze free finish with the polishing step.
We did however make the mistake of going a BIT too aggressive with the compounding step...which led to life being hell during the finishing step. However, we were still going to finish this damn thing down
like a mirror if it killed us.

We started to drive ourselves a little crazy and thought we were seeing a bit of marring left over...when there really wasn't...but we did another polishing step anyway just because lol.
So this thing really ended up getting 3 steps. Cut with Meguiars M100, Polished with HD Ultra Polish and then a final FINAL polish with Carpro Essence.

There was however a light at the end of the tunnel. For a while we thought that light was a train...and we were right the first few times. But after being run over with that train and considering suicide or the good ole match in the gas tank approach, we decided to just keep polishing and praying!
Finally, finally FINALLY...we were ready to coat this thing. This was after being re-washed, wiped down with eraser, re-inspecting the paint and hoping no towel marring was induced (which it wasn't thank goodness) and then the lighting of a candle and chanting ancient Buddhist mantra's in appreciation of this great moment!

Much thanks again to the Port-a-cooler in the back. While it was still hot, it was no where near as bad as it was when that thing was broken for a week!
Now while we would have loved to have shown some before and after shots of the ELR...it did not happen unfortunately. We did however get some really sweet after shots. It also received a Stage 1 Polish and CQuartz Professional - along with wheel repair, wheel coating and leather coating on the inside.

However, the owner did come back the next day! He was actually nice enough to bring us lunch and also wanted to grab some maintenance supplies to take with him before heading back to New Mexico.
It had unfortunately sprinkled just a LITTLE BIT before he arrived - so these sun shots were not 100% ideal, but they were still pretty good.

So, there we have it. Lots of fun on some sexy cars that week. We had a few others in between...the C7 seen under the sheets above and then a mini van! Yes, we coated a mini van damn it. But you know what, the owner has had us coat 3 of his vehicles over the past couple of years and needless to say, he loves the benefits of staying cleaner longer and being easier to clean. So the Mini Van got a light polish and CQ Classic.
