So I worked on my sons car over the weekend. It is black with a very fine metal flake. When I looked at the hood under some strong light I notice in a few places some small, swirls. They were about the size of a dime, very consistent, all connected, like three of four swirls. Could this be from something in my pad? The car was cleaned, clay barred and prepped properly. I have seen swirls marks before but nothing like this, small and very consistent.

Does your buffer have a solid pad or a hold in the center? Dirt on pad?

It definitely sounds like there was something in the pad.

I was using a PC 7424 with a foam pad. How often are you guys changing your pads?

I swap my pads after every panel to keep them from getting hot. I also use three or four pads in a rotation and use Mike Phillips "clean on the fly" method to clean the pads before using them again in their rotation.

I also use the "clean on the fly" method while using. I will maybe start rotating the pads more often.

Usually ever 2 panels. If the roof or hood are bad and large, I do change them after that one panel.

My guess with out pictures is it's pigtails from the compound/Polish...I suggest a softer pad and a very fine polish.
