I am in the UK.
I am doing some writing about auto trade practices and trying to understand differences between UK and US in various areas. I hope some members here can help me regarding US detailing
Some background about detailing in the UK to help frame my question.
The term Detailing is not generally used in the UK except for detailing of high end vehicles, in fact we have few detailing specialists, the closest thing to detailing for most car owners is a diy wash and wax, with a few places that will go as far as polishing body and wheels then waxing, plus an interior clean.
Body shops do not get involved in detailing, except to give repaired vehicles a thorough clean after body repair or painting.
I give that background to explain my ignorance of detailing in the US.
My question.
For those business that offer detailing in the US, what is the mix (%) that are:
Specialist Detailers who's primary business is detailing
Auto body Shops who also offer detailing
Detailing companies that are in a fixed location vs offering a mobile service
National Detailing companies or franchisees, vs privately owned local businesses.
I realise different people will have different opinions and the % mix might differ in different parts of the US, but any opinions / answers will be appreciated.
