Detailed: 2005 Colorado LS

This referral came from a customer of mine at a local bank. The owner of this truck runs a local gas station here in downtown Blue Ridge. The forecast was for 75% rain all day but the owner told me I could work on it. I didn't have anything else planned so I saw it as a good chance to gain some more rotary experience. He has recently ordered a new Mini Cooper S and will trading this truck in the coming week. I wasn't getting paid for a full detail but this was some good exposure for my business. He said just to make it presentable. I figured I could a little more than that!

Wash Cycle:
Running low on my NXT Tech wash, I decided to use some of Zep's Car Wash that found at my local Home Depot. I put 2 ounces in the bucket with 2.5 gallons of water. Suds were amazing. I first degreased the jams, tires, wells, and wheels. I then washed the truck twice with a LC Ulti-Mitt. This has been a really good mitt. Expect a review soon......this was the 49th vehicle and I'm doing my review when I hit 50 vehicles washed. I did notice that the Zep cleaned really well and sheet a lot of the water off. Bugs came off easy too.

Interior:
The interior first saw a major vacuuming. I use my brush attachment a lot. I vacuum every surface of the interior before it sees any liquid cleaning at all. All plastics and vinyl got Purple Power cut 4:1 and the carpets and seat saw a mix of Folex and Purple Power. I mix it like this.......8oz. Purple Power......8oz. Folex.......the rest with WARM water. I spray it on after I vacuum the area. By the time I get back around to the starting spot, it's time to wipe up with a wet MF towel and re-vacuum. This one didn't get a full restoration as it would have required several passes of this process. Came good enough for me and the customer.

Paint Polishing:
(Meguiar's #9 Swirl Remover 2.0 via rotary & LC White Pad)
It's been a while since I've used any of Meguiar's polishes. Since it very damp today and 106 has been tough in humid conditions, I though I play with this some. I was not doing a full correction on the paint. I was just getting ride of some surface swirls and reducing some dings and scratches. The thing was, this polish and the rotary took out way more than I thought! Pad hop nearly ceased too and there was no sling. There was also no dusting, no staining, and the clean up was effortless. All of this from a 9.00 bottle of polish. I love.

Paint Protection:
(NXT 2.0 by hand...removed by hand also)
Figured since I was using Meguiar's polish, why not use the NXT 2.0 Wax? I put it on by and it was a breeze. It dried in about 15 minute in about 100% humidity. Came off easy. I also did all the jams and shuts with NXT as well.

Meg's #9 is a nasty product, IMO. I have found it to fill swirls and stain trim very badly. Maybe the fillers were decreased with rotary use but an alcohol wipedown may have been a good idea ... just incase. The work looks impressive now lets hope they stay that way (no fillers).

Wow what a turnaround. Could those carpets have been any more dirty? The paint came out great, a job to be proud of. It's plain to see this is a work truck with all the scars that go with it, but you really brought it back to life. He sure got his moneys worth.

I'm not taking anything personal. I just stating that the batching/age of the product may be causing the difference. I know of a lot who have used this product and love it. I know from experience too that some think a OTC product can't work, won't work, and will never work. Oh, Autogeek sell this product.

I have no problems with Meguair's. They are an extremely great company with products that suits everyone. Meguiar's #9 shouldn't be in the Professional series though. It is loaded with oils and fillers and I get that from my personal experiences and many many others online. I definitely wouldn't use it as a corrective polish let alone the only polish used on a vehicle, but that's me and you do your own thing, which is working, and that's all that counts. I just read that he would be trading in the truck, so no biggie when / if the swirls reappear in the coming weeks.

Could you give us your impression on the NXT2.0?
I have the older version, though very good results, nice shine, and got a lot of complements on my Vette, it didn't last as long as I would've loved to. If possible, monitor its durability, I know the 2.0 is supposed to be more durable, but I want proof :D
