For those flying in... Mitchell Field (MKE) is about 45 minutes from Oconomowoc. O'Hare (ORD) on the northwest side of Chicago is about two hours away. Mitchell Field is MUCH easier to navigate (both inside and outside the airport) and is always my preferred airport. If you drive up from Chicago, you'll likely end up paying road tolls driving through Illinois, so have cash on hand.

Oconomowoc is a fairly small town, but some of the biggest cities in Wisconsin are nearby. You might want to plan an extra day or two to devote to touring Brew City or go to a Brewers game (versus Cincinnati). Miller Park is very easy to get to from Oconomowoc and the Brewers are doing some serious butt-kicking this season. Or go to the world-famous Milwaukee Art Museum (google Calatrava museum or go to Milwaukee Art Museum (http://www.mam.org) ).

Driving the other direction, you'll get to Madison in an hour, and can see some 'interesting' people on State Street right outside the capitol building. It's a fun place to people-watch or take photos. Tons of great restaurants in that area, too. The scenery is pretty hard to beat, as well. The capitol is on a small strip of land adjoined by lakes to the north and south.

Also, for those driving up from Chicago, you might want to plan your route to drive through Lake Geneva in Wisconsin. It's a much better drive than going straight up I-94 into Milwaukee (unless you plan to spend some time in MKE, of course).

Ok, I'm done with my tourism shpiel (unless the chamber of commerce wants to pay me). Suffice it to say that Milwaukee (or Wisconsin in general) in the summer is worth spending a little extra time in the area.

Thanks for putting this information together. By the way, I called the first two hotels you listed(Staybridge & Hilton Garden Inn) and they are completely 'booked' for that weekend. Any chance Autogeek reserved a block of rooms at one of these places?

Hi David,

Looking forward to meeting you. This will be a fun class. I'll be packing for it probably tomorrow and Thursday Yancy and I are supposed to shoot a short video showing all the stuff I'm packing which is ALL the STUFF you're going to get to play with and it's a lot.

As for the hotel, we did not reserve a block of rooms but I'll bring this up in the weekly Wednesday meeting tomorrow so we do this moving forward with future roadshow classes.

There's always a learning curve to everything and this is our learning moment.

I'm surprised the other two hotels are booked out? There must be some big happening taking place the same weekend.

Maybe Dave Patterson from Lake Country knows and can chime in? I'll send him the link to this thread right now.

I sent an e-mail to Dave and Don asking if they knew of any special events taking place the weekend of our class and Don replied back with this...

Hi Mike,

Nothing that I’m aware of.

I was curious so I called the Staybridges Suites and they have availability during that weekend, but they do require a 2 night minimum on the weekends.

I asked if there was any big events going on that weekend and they just have a lot of weddings going on.

Hope that’s helpful.

Thanks for the information Mike. That was my bad then because I only asked if they had openings for Sat night. Funny they didn't say anything about a two night minimum. Either way, we'll make it work and I'll be there next month ready to work on some cool cars!

Just a thought - because Lake Country is hosting this event, wondering if Dave/Don would be willing to put together a 'goody' bag for each student? A pad or two, maybe a backing plate, mf towels, etc. I think that would be a cool way to welcome everyone.

To be honest, I don't know what if anything LC will be doing but they are great guys so I guess we'll just have to wait and see?
