Hey Gang!

Looking for some advice on how to remove this "white substance" on my running boards.

It wouldn't wipe off with just water, and I was able to scrape some of it off with my fingernail (click the pic to enlarge and see the smudged area).

The running boards are plastic, and this is a 2014 Ford Edge.

Any tips/tricks on a concoction I could conjure to easily break down and remove this?

If I were to guess ... it is some sort of paint/chalk .. maybe from the white lines on the road that I ran over after some fresh road construction?

All purpose cleaner and a soft bristled brush. If that doesn't work then step up to more specific cleaners i.e. Mothers Heavy Duty Trim Cleaner.

If that's DOT paint, or Department of Transportation paint, it's really tough stuff. Think about it. It's designed to have millions of cars and truck driver over it and not wear down.

If you're still looking for a product, I'd try Tar X, it's like Tarminator and both will probably work.

CarPro Tar X Tar & Adhesive Remover (http://www.autogeek.net/carpro-tar-x-600ml.html)

Stoner Tarminator removes bug residue, tar, tree sap, gum and more from automotive surfaces! bug & tar remover, auto spot cleaner, car bug & tar (http://www.autogeek.net/tarminator.html)
