Tools:

Flex PE 14-2 Rotary buffer with 5.5 and 3 inch backing plates

Hex Logic Orange Pad 5.5 and 3 inch

Hex Logic White Pad 5.5 and 3 inch

Meguiar's D151 Paint Reconditioning Cream

Bilt Hamber Auto Clay

Chemical Guys RinseFree Wash & Shine mixed up for clay lube

Chemical Guys Citrus Wash & Gloss

Method:

I washed the vehicle with 2 bucket method. Used the claybar on the painted surfaces. Polished the painted surfaces with Flex PE 14-2 Rotary Buffer and Meguiar's 151. The first step was with the orange pad. The second step with the white pad.

Results:

Results were amazing. Very quick work made of swirls, etchings and water marks. Amazing mirror shine on the black paint.

Nice finish! I love blacks as they give the best finished results IMHO. I personally own a black graphite Metallic BMW and the finish is immaculate after I got ahold of it.

I was able to finish this in just a couple of hours. The rotary made it quick, and of course there is not nearly as much painted surface area as on most vehicles.

Still, this is a quick way to bust some swirls.

Thanks everyone! I think many people are afraid using a rotary on this type of job. It sure is quicker! I try to feel the paint and make sure that it is not getting hot from the rotary. I have been working more and more with the rotary on test hoods and my own old vehicles to learn to really maximize its potential.

Looks spectacular!

I feel like a big D for asking this, but do you feel D151 is masking and holograms?

And why not a heavier cut polish or compound first, then D151 used with a DA?

No worries Mantilgh!

For this exercise, I followed the instructions on the bottle of D151 for rotary polishers. It states:

"Rotary Machine Application: Choose appropriate Meguiar's buffing pad. Set machine to 1400-2000 RPM's. Apply PRC directly to surface.

STEP2 (OPTIONAL): For additional clarity, gloss and protection, re-apply PRC with the appropriate Meguiar's foam finishing pad or applicator pad."

I used Chemical Guys WipeOut Surface Cleaner on the test panel. I think it is a really good surface cleaner for polishing oils. I didn't see any trails.

I have examined the Jeep out in the sun. I haven't seen any.

You may have seen that I did a review recently on the 7 heavy cut polishes on my shelf. I followed each of those with a DA and a "polish" in the cut range of 4-5. So I am really kind of testing methods out on my junk hoods and on my own vehicles.

But the answer to your question is: Because that's what the instructions said.

And because D151 is the ####! Love that stuff. Awesome job dude. I'm dabbling in the rotary world and a little but in the DA microfiber pad world.

I was going to post a picture of my car showing the beautiful shine after I spent hours on it.
Now that I see your results, I see that I'm out of my league, and I won't be posting my pictures.
You do great work.
