Looking at getting GTECHNIQ EXO, has anyone applied just the EXO and not on top of anything else? Would like to know how it is as a stand alone coating.

I have not applied it but my buddy back in Long Island NY who is on this forum, (Mediscott) is an Opti-Pro dealer. His customer came in and asked for EXO. After the application Scott sent me the pics and gave it a great review.

V2 is out now and it supposedly has good UV protection (Which is what we need here in AZ) and better longevity than V1. We don't care about water beading out here (cause it doesn't rain like back East...) but UV is the killer out here.


If you get it and try it, let us know your experience...

You can apply it as a standalone product. However, it was designed to top C1 or CSL.

I will. I just don't have a lot of time and hesitant to pay the price of the CSL and EXO combo. From what I read it's good as a stand alone but most have applied after the CSL

I just got my EXO v3 in and am hoping to apply it as a stand alone on my z06....it's a garage King so it won't see any monsoon storms nor be outside a whole lot....but it'll be nice to get a coating on it and not have to worry about protection for a long time, just maintenance washes here and there.

my only thing stopping me right now though is it's 105* plus here and even in my garage it's like 90* and I'm not sure if that's too hot and the coating will flash too fast??

Since I'm right down the road from you that's one of my concerns as well, applying it when it's summer here in AZ. Others have said it's fine but you have to work faster. Which in this heat can be hard.

And here I thought I was the only one in Chandler.. :)

I used CQ in my garage the other day. Had to knock down two high-spots and re-coat. I did not have quick flash time. With EXO, I never used it so I'll defer to Kevin.

Yeah I'm in maricopa

I've never done a coating before so little nervous about it. Can you feel the high spots or just see them?

Both... Don't be nervous, it's nothing that can't be corrected.

yea I was thinking to shrink down the sections to half of what u would normally do....this is my first coating as well, which is why I went with EXO cuz I've heard it's very simple to do....and like LNS said it's nothing that a quick repolish can't fix....I'll probably start polishing the car over the next couple weeks in prep for the "coat day"

p.s. Monday is supposed to be a nice cool 93* I can't wait :)

Are you polishing it to correct the paint or just to get off all other waxes and sealants ?

light correction/sealant removal/water spot removal....it's so dry here the water just spots up in no time....I'll be using 205 to polish

My advice for any and all coatings to reduce high spots is to apply very thin. Remember how thin it actually cures to, and how little is actually needed. If it wasn't for the fact that we're human and can't apply things at a micron level, a 30ml bottle could probably do over 5 cars or so. The other thing to is the prep, anything other than bare paint is going to cause smears and difficulties removing, especially when you consider solvents playing with oils. What I do with every coating is I'll apply it thinly over half the panel or a quarter of the panel, and then when I'm done crosshatching a few times, I wait to see it flash then I go back with the applicator pad and work it in even more with more cross hatches or small little circles. That alone will solve you a lot of grief when you go over with a towel. As well, go over with plenty of towels. Three towels per panel essentially, use all sides. If you think you've wiped enough, go over it a few more times just in case.
