Optimum Gloss Coat Beading Issues

I applied Optimum Gloss Coat June of 2016. For the last few months, I have noticed that water no longer beads or sheets well on the sides (Bottom half of driver and pass doors, Rear sides of bumper) and the rear of the car. Basically it is happening on all of the areas that are constantly hit with road spray. Every other part beads well.

I am trying to figure out if it is just because my coating is contaminated, or if the coating is gone in those areas.

I finally got a chance to give it a thorough washing. I sprayed the areas with OPC 1:3, let it dwell for a min, and washed and rinsed the area. I also clay barred the entire car with Medium Grade Nano Skin. The problem areas feel smooth and super clean after the clay, but those areas are still not beading well.

Is there a way to see if the coating is still there and just contaminated?

Any tips on what I can use to try and "revive" the coating, assuming the coating is there and just contaminated?

I use Chemical Guys Mr Pink.

Probably needs to be decontaminated to bring back the beading (beading does not necessarily mean protection). Wash with something like Reload, spray with iron-x and clay the area. The beading should reappear.

Hmm. I would advise using an Iron X type product then wash with something like CarPro Reset. You could top with Optiseal after or use one of the spray on rinse off silica products like McKee's Hydro Blue or CarPro's Hydro2.

Using the medium grade nanoskin may have done some damage to the coating. That's more aggressive than I probably would have gone. I would've focused on a good decontamination wash followed by a light clay only if the beading had not returned. You could try Iron X to see if the beading returns but after what you described I think the coating might be gone.

Mr. Pink is one of their weaker soaps as far as cleaning ability, I have found. I would try CarPro Reset or Chemical Guys Citrus Wash at higher concentration. Iron-X snow soap would also be a good choice. Most likely your coating is contaminated in those areas and needs a thorough cleaning to revitalize it.

Never used their Honeydew. For cleaning power the Citrus Wash red was the best but it looks like they discontinued it. It had no waxes or silicones so it was great for coated cars. I'm pretty sure Citrus Wash and Clear is it's replacement. Hard to tell with Chemical Guys sometimes...

I forgot to mention I had the exact same issue with my last car that had Opti-Coat Pro on it (The sides and rear didn't bead after about a year). I had Clayed and Iron-Xed it as well with no results, but never went further. I was hopeing a clay would have been enough, but it sounds like Carpro Reset and Iron-X is what I should try next. I figured my OPC spray I did would be good enough as a decon wash, but it sounds like I need to look more into how to do a proper decon wash. I was originally planning on using Iron-X as well as the clay but I was out of it. I'll be reading up on Reset.

As long as the protection is there, I am not too worried. I don't really have time for awhile to re-do the coating. Hopefully the Reset\Iron-X\Clay will do the trick.

I was worried as well about it being too aggressive, but I did a test area, and had no marring. I was really careful and used alot of ONR ad QD dilution for the lube. I was able to clay the whole car, and didn't see any marring, and the parts of the car that was still beading\sheeting, didn't change after the clay, so I believe it is still intact. I figure if the parts of the car that still showed the beading\sheeting action of the coating, still show those properties, that the coating is still intact.

Any shampoo that doesn't leave anything behind, Gyeon Bathe, Reset, Adams are all great choices

Don't expect longevity with gloss coat it just doesn't happen.These are entry level coatings that is available to the public .Try to get your hands on cq finest or something as comparable.as far as longevity. At of all.the coatings I had. Purchased from ag boyds held up the longest like 8 months.Superior product against all others in my own opinion.

Try Reset, MDR 1:3, Ferrex, and even straight Power Clean. You may need to seriously decontaminate it to bring it back.
