The Good Effect of Wheel Cleaners

Hey guys

So I was washing my car that has 55k Km and after cleaning the wheels with CG Diablo Gel, I decided to use Meguiars DUB Wheel Cleaner to see if there was any remaining contaminant. For my surprise, there was absolutely any portion of the cleaner turning to purple, proving that the "normal" wheel cleaner I always used was really doing it's job. Good to know =D

Not to burst your bubble, but I'm not convinced Dub Wheel Cleaner does much color changing.

I tried out a bottle for a while and found it is a pretty good wheel cleaner, but couldn't get it to change color on even the filthiest wheels or even the overspray on the brake rotors which should show some color change.

Cool, I don't think I've ever had DUB wheel cleaner not change color.

I used it on a newer set of black Camero wheels the other day and it was obvious it was changing color.

I could clean my own all day long and they will still show a color change, but mine are neglected 15 yr old wheels.

Interesting it changed for you. The bottle I had just stayed that alien green when used on some seriously filthy wheels. Like I mentioned above, what really surprised me was the overspray on the iron brake rotors didn't even change color...nothing, nada, zip. Just a bright green. It cleaned well, but I was disapointed I didn't get see the whole color change.

Last time I tried it on wheels was on the Kia sitting outside and it didn't change colors.. That just tells me the wheels are well maintained and they are, I use Megs D143. As far as your experience with it not changing on those baked wheels, I can see why you would think it's just a gimmick.. There's always those weird cases that happen to all of us. Lol.

I can tell you that when I used the DUB on my paint job or on filthy wheels, it always changed the color to purple. My wheel has a small cap on the center to hide the bolts, which was removed at the moment of the photo. The wheel hub cap on the center was still a little bit dirty when I used the DUB cleaner, and only at that part it changed to purpe. It didn't change on the rest of the wheel as you can see on the photo. The overspray on my brake disk also changed to purple.

No. It comes out of the bottle that green color and it's supposed to turn purple like the spots shown in Eldorado2K's pictures.

Interesting. I wonder what was in the bottle I purchased? It was that bright green coming out, but then nothing happened. I was actually looking forward to seeing one of these iron disolving/coloring changing products in action...and then nothing. Oh, well. Glad it worked for you!

"seriously filthy" does not necessarily mean presence of ferrous particles. A real test would have been to spray another product to see if there was any chemical reaction causing the "desired" color change.
