What's a long lasting wax (even winter ) and if I maintain it with some sort of spray wax can a get a year out of my (clay, polish), or do I have to use a sealer also!?

can't go wrong with...
Collinite Liquid Insulator Wax #845, liquid wax, heat-resistant wax, car wax (http://www.autogeek.net/collinite-insulator-wax-845.html)

Instead of Waxes, I'll suggest
Sealants (at least for the type of
longevity you are shooting for).

•Wax(actually a Sealant):
Finish Kare 1000P Hi-Temp Paste Wax, high melt polymer car wax, Finish care auto wax (http://www.autogeek.net/finish-kare-1000p-wax.html)

•Maintenance Wash:
McKee’s 37 N-914 Rinseless Wash (http://www.autogeek.net/mckees-rinseless-wash.html)

•Sealant Detail Spray:
Finish Kare Anti Static Poly Wipe Finish Restorer Spray Detailer, anti-static detail spray, quick detailer, finish care instant detail spray (http://www.autogeek.net/finish-kare-antistatic-detailer.html)

If you just want a wax, then I second the 845. Lasts all winter for me here in NY which can have some awful winters.

But a whole year would be a stretch IMO.

I agree with Bob except find FK425 to be an excellent detail spray and drying aid. Tremendous lubricity as a drying aid and increases slickness of the finished surface.

Finish Kare 425 Extra Slick Final Body Shine, finish care quick detailer, ultra slick detail spray (http://www.autogeek.net/finish-kare-425-detailer.html)

A wax won't last a year so scratch that. A few months, yes it's possible if you wash the car properly.

FK1000p, 2 layers put on a week apart. I got 10+ months. Granted, it's in So Cal, so no extreme weather changes or salt on the roads here.

The Finish Kare 425 spray is also a nice spray. Slick feel, decent scent. Recently used it on windows (as a drying aid) and was happy with it, so I did that on a couple of other cars I recently detailed.

845 is so easy to use just do it twice a year.

This would be my vote. In my short experience, it last longer than anything else I've tried. I wouldn't mind giving Fk1000 a try one day.

I used to think the same thing until this past year. On it's own, you're right, a wax or sealant won't go the distance. However, last fall I put on coat of 845. Over the next few months when weather permitted, I washed the car and followed up with Blackfire's Wet Diamond Polymer Spray. During the coldest winter months, it was touchless washed a few times to get rid of salt/grime. Once our early Spring arrived, I followed the same wash/spray wax routine until I ran out of the product. Eight months later, I still had great beading/sheeting action. The appearance wasn't as shiny and you could feel the surface was in dire need of a good claying...but the car was still protected.

My thought is if you consistently top a quality LSP with a quality spay wax on a periodic basis, you can extend the life of an LSP much longer than you think. The two products can work together. If I hadn't topped with the spray wax, the 845 most likely would have been died away at about 6.5~7 months.

I'd say Colly #476 Super Doublecoat will be a hard one to beat, especially for price.
