Detailed my black car but imperfections didn't go away fully.

Hi, I recently polished my black car, it's an infiniti so I know Nissan factory paint isn't the best but the imperfections that I can't feel at all with my fingernail won't go away. I Used meguiars m105 compound with a dual action polisher and some pads I bought off of Amazon. Are the pads an issue? Or what is it. I'll try attaching some pics.

You should follow the compound with a finishing polish such as M205.

I dont know the best about the different type of polishes but from my understanding is that M105 is a heavier cutting compound than M205, so if M105 didnt take away the imperfections I dont understand how M205 would do that.

Depending on the hardness of the paint, micro marring and/or DA haze can occur with an aggressive compound and pad. A finishing polish can take care of that micro marring and/or DA haze on top of adding gloss to the paint.

Perhaps this is what you are experiencing as Infiniti paint can be on the soft side of things.

Also having owned Nissans since 1986, I find they have far superior paint compared to Honda's and Toyotas. I never had clear coat failure on any of my Nissans. I see Honda's and Toyotas with cc all the time down here in Florida.

This was my Xterra after 12 years and 150,000 miles, never garaged, the paint wasn't perfect but it was solid for 12 years old.

Check to make sure you don't have scratch shield paint. Look on the underside of the hood on the passenger side towards the cowl. There may be a sticker there indicating you do. This type of paint is known to look ok once it is corrected but revert back to a damaged state once the self healing properties do what they do.

I also agree that following up the compound with something lighter such as M205 is necessary. M105 is actually probably overkill on a black Infiniti, you shouldn't need something that aggressive for this type of paint.

That was allegedly a refresh, but since it had new front end and hood an redone interior I don't quite get that. I traded in my first gen for this one. This was the 2003 Supercharged SE / Rockford Fosgate Stereo etc.

The story goes, I took my wife in for a new Altima and this was sitting in the showroom and I had to have it. So I traded my 2001 in :props:

As much as I liked it, I like the 28 mpg average I get from my Rogue much much better. That thing was a gas pig.

Is this your first time buffing paint? Also, which MF's are you using?

No it's Not, and I'm using the thick colorful ones from Wal-Mart, I think they're by auto spa or something like that.

@alxblade yeah I Used multiple pads throughout the car.

@ekennet do I have to use m205? Because the only bottle available for sale near me is the big 40 dollar one. Can i use ultimate polish or something along those lines?

I agree with others who have said you should have followed with a polish.....I recently did a one step on a 2013 G37 (black) and I found the clear to be on the soft side.....when doing test spots I found using anything with more cut than a medium polish and or a light cutting pad would leave marring...ending up using an orange light cutting pad and an AIO polish...attached are some before and afters on the G37 I did

To answer your question yes ultimate polish is fine. It is derived from M205. Also get some better towels. Cheap towels can marr the paint.
