I have a road trip coming up this summer with the family and really don't want to pack my huge bag with most of my car care supplies in it. I've done that in the past, and it just takes up too much space. For general around town driving, I always have a ziplock bag in the glove box with a couple small microfiber towels and some quick detailing spray to take care of rogue bird droppings or other small items, but that isn't sufficient for a road trip, where I can imagine needing glass cleaner, bug remover, and ???.

So what do you all do? Do you have a dedicated road trip kit or something similar? I'm looking for some ideas for what to bring and how to contain it all. Has anyone found little dispensers that work well for smaller amounts of products?

Show me what you've got and inspire me! Thanks!

This may cost me my Autogeek membership card, but....

I typically don't bother when on a road trip and just wait until I get home and have my full arsenal at my disposal to properly clean the car. Occasionally if the bugs get really bad I'll find a wash bay and pressure wash the worst of it. Of course our road trips never last more than 3~4 days.

If I was to carry a kit I'd stock it with the following:

- bug sponge
- bug remover
- quick detailer
- a handful of MF towels

My biggest worry on a road trip is bug guts etching the paint. Grime and dirt is just a badge of honor being on the road.

You worry about the car all year long. lol it wouldn't kill you to drive a dirty car for a little while. Just enjoy the trip and spending time with the family.

Agree! I'm glad I'm not the only OCD nut here willing to not sweat a dirty car on vacation.

Not sure what a small spray bottle of apc, ONR, spray wax, and interior dressing couldn't handle to get it good enough for a couple weeks.

I keep a detail bag in my cars. PB S&W, Mckee's 37 ww, glass cleaner, QD, apc, 303 and plenty of micro fibers. Fairly small bag, so it doesn't take up much room.

I took:

Meguiar's Ultimate Wash & Wax Anywhere
Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax
Meguiar's High Gloss Protectant

Took a small, shallow tote full of microfiber towels, and applicators.

It wasn't so much for our rented car, but for our friend's who were getting married. I got their Tahoe spiffed up the day of the wedding. It was a new experience having the towels I work with in Michigan, in the parking structure of a Santa Rosa, Florida beach resort where we stayed. It was pretty cool. Like being on the road with a band.

I just did a road trip from New York to Florida. I threw a 5 gallon bucket with a grit guard and gamma seal lid in the back of the truck with the following:

Blackfire rinse less wash.
Rinseless wash mitt
Tuf Shine tire brush & medium wheel woolie brush
Blackfire spray wax
Various microfiber towels for drying and others for wheel / tire work
Meg's super degreaser at 1:10 dilution
HD Glass

Where we stayed my car was parked in a parking structure. I took about an hour one morning and did a full rinse less wash and spray wax including wheels and tires. Good for getting all the bugs I accumulated on the trip off. I can clean any part of the car with the rinse less wash solution, including the interior. The only thing I forget was tire dressing, but there was some off the shelf stuff available for me to use. Normally I like Poorboys tire gel for this since it has cleaners and protectants in it.

The whole thing doesn't take up that much room and it gives me a chance to keep everything spick and span.

We actually have a kit designed specifically for these types of occassions: https://www.drbeasleys.com/bug-barrier-prescription.html

I keep a little bit of everything in it. I'm not sure who the manufacturer is? It was given to me and I thought it would be perfect for keeping some samples in my truck. It looks like a replica Pelican case. It's a nice looking case and very durable.
