Metallic silver Audi paint that will dull nails. Just curious if you guys/gals think it would be worth the effort to follow M205 with Ultimate Polish? I have a lot of UP sitting around (and a wide range of pads), and don't mind the time involved since I usually do a full of weekend of spring detailing on the car. But is it likely to give me any extra gloss?

I know the correct answer is "try it and see" but thought I'd dip into the collective pool of experience here first.

IMO no-need. M205 and UP are essencially the same product except UP has more oils in it to offer a longer working time. I'm sure Mike or others will chime in with more, however, IMO I see no need to follow up big brother with his twin.

The best thing I can offer is to use Essence. I use it with a white pad and it really amps up the gloss. It's more of an AIO or base for Coatings but it's awesome. Menzerna 3500/3800 aka 4000/4500 now are two polishes that should amp it up too. Lastly, I LOVE HDSpeed and HDPolish too. Speed is my go-to for AIO's and I do love the level of refinement it offers.

In closing what you already know will finish it off should you just polish it is to coat it. Again, I know you know that, but with Silver, like white, it's often tough to get that real WOW! Factor at times.

Yep, I hear you. I drove a brilliant black A4 for 13 years and was used to that night and day transformation and 'is that car new??' reaction I'd get from people after detailing. As opposed to 'hey that looks really good' response now, which just isn't the same, especially after spending 12 hours on the paint. I'd be more than happy to spend an extra two hours if it made a noticeable difference.

I've been tempted by the HD line on a few occasions but never jumped on it. I'll have to reinvestigate before Detailing Day arrives.

I'll have to reinvestigate before Detailing Day arrives.

You'll enjoy their goods. I'm having some work done on my car now so with some fresh paint I'll be moving to their 505 Glaze which is silicon free and safe for use on new paint. Not sure if HDSpeed is silicon free but 505 is the more expensive same thing. Thus I'll be removing my coating and moving to this for the summer. After 60-90 days when the paint is fully gassed off I'll coat it again.

Pick up some of their towel clean too. You'll LOVE it. It removes everything from pads, even dark single stage paint with ease. I'm ordering more today.

Fuzion.

Now that I'm looking at the Autopia Polish Comparison Chart (http://www.autopia.org/forums/paint-correction-and-gloss-enhancement/181138-updated-9-2015-autopia-polish-comparison-chart.html) I see that UP is considered a glaze. I've never seen that mentioned here.

I asked that same question because the product description in the bottle says "pre-waxing glaze". Here's Michael Stoops' answer to my question:

Well................. yes and no.

What many people call a glaze is what we've referred to as a pure polish for years. The intent of this type of product is the create of gloss - it's sort of like a beauty treatment for your paint. But the vary nature of this type of product means that it's going to fill and hide fine defects. Some body shops use it primarily for that purpose, but as far as we're concerned the proper use of such a product is to apply it to a perfectly prepared surface in order to increase the gloss and depth of color.

M205 and UP both contain SMAT abrasives and both contain polishing oils. UP has more polishing oils that M205, but M205 has more cutting ability due to the level of SMAT in it. So both can fill and hide to some degree, but both can and will remove fine defects in the paint, it's just that M205 will remove more. Remember, it's M205 that we use when rotary buffing to remove any holograms that may have been created in the compounding step with something like M105 on a wool cutting pad.

As Shawn surmises, the term "pre waxing glaze" is on the bottle so that the "average consumer" gains a better understand of what the product is for. There is a surprising number of people who use "wax" and "polish" interchangeably, but there's no wax in Ultimate Polish, so we want the "average consumer" to understand that they need to wax after using UP.

Very interesting. And it goes back to my original thought that M205 and UP are actually different. Perhaps not enough to warrant following M205 with UP, tho.

If you are using Fuzion as your LSP, Menzerna SF3800 would work great.
