Are these the same as the larger towel minus size? Can they be used for drying?

Yep they are the same I have 2 16x16, along with the larger one. There great. Yes for drying.

I use mine for buffing they are decent

yeah and you're better off with the two smaller ones. I've got the big towel(and it works great) but you can move a lot quicker with 2 small ones. the big one is hard to wring out. with the two small ones this old fart can get it done. good luck.
