Has anyone ever heard of this?!?

Well I heard a new one this weekend. I had a client who told me he used WD40 on his leather. I was cleaning his leather and noticed it looked a little strange. I thought is was just dry so I Conditioned it. After finishing his car and going over it, he told me of this little tip. The leather didn't look good to me, he said he hasn't "treated" in awhile, but it didn't appear damaged. Anyone heard of this before?

i like using wd-40 on rusted bolts and squeaky hinges...

I've been using WD40 in the same manner on leather work gloves for decades, keeps them soft and pliable. I would never consider doing it to upholstery. Would be concerned about color change and degradation of thin, fine leather from VOCs.

If the owner is happy with using WD40 on the leather interior of his way-cool Camaro then that's his prerogative.


Me? With SO MANY quality products on the market made by GREAT chemists specifically for leather - yeah... I'd use any leather product by a major brand name before rubbing leather down with WD40

I don't see how a product that's been
formulated as a Water-Displacement
spray would be beneficial when used
on automotive leathers.
