very cool idea!

You'd be surprised to find out this is not new.

This technology was shown at the auto shows quite a while ago. I don't remember what vehicle it was shown on but for some reason I am thinking mark VIII.

I always wonder if the trim peice that is as the door sill when the door is in the open position is the top trim peice once the door is closed?

If so that would drive me nuts. I couldn't handle a scuffed piece of trim.

But what keeps your door panels from getting scratched up when grit/debris gets in places where it shouldn't be?

Maybe I didn't explain myself very well.. second try here..

When a person exits/enters the car their feet typicaly make contact with the door sill area. In conventional automotive vehicles this area is concealed when the door is closed.

With this door mod, if a persons feet come in contact with the door sill area when the door is "closed" the area that once was the door sill is now the top trim peice of the inner door assembly = highly visible scuffed area..

Cool regardless, just my inner "noise from the void"...
