View Full Version : Iron-x, clay bar and compounding/polishing cars with stripes.

Question 1: Is it safe to iron-x stripes w/o clear coats covering them? And clay these areas? Talking about cars with wide stripes on hoods and lower doors. As well as the narrow stripes on upper fenders and doors. (these are put on car after paint and with out clear over them.

Question 2: Can you compound and polish over these stripes?

My gut tells me no. correct?

Hi Tom,

I've enver seen a negative result from using products like Iron X, SONAX Fallout Remover or McKee's 37 Extreme Iron Remover on vinyl graphics but the important thing is to NOT LET THESE PRODUCT DRY ON THE SURFACE. If you do, then you "might" see staining just due to how chemicals become CONCENTRATED, especially in direct sunlight, (where you're often using these products), as the liquids evaporate out of them.






Question 2: Can you compound and polish over these stripes?

No.

I've machine polished graphics using ULTRA fine cut polishes and super soft foam pads. Here's an example...
