View Full Version : What's good for a light to medium SMAT polish for swirls

So long story short, I had some work done to the truck ( 2006 f250 ) and they 'helped' me by washing it... Yeah, you already know. Swirl city.
What would work well at removing the swirls? I'd be using LC flat pads on a DA. Nothing seems too deep, but as the sun hits it, you can see what looks like spider webs on the paint. But it's just swirls from contaminated wash mitts or a damn brush on the paint.
I'm going to follow it with eraser and McKees coating.
Also some light water spots

Optimum Hyper Polish uses both
SMAT and DAT abrasives.

Personally, I love m205, but for my polishing style HD Polish+ works much better 90% of the time. Especially on soft/sticky paint. M205 has the edge in cut though especially when paired with a microfiber cutting pad on harder paints.
Hyper Polish is also great, but as bob mentioned it utilizes SMAT and DAT abrasives. I mostly use hyper-polish for polishing trim.
If I were you, unless the f150 has soft/sticky paint, I would keep it simple and buy m205 with microfiber cutting pads.

If you need more cut than M205 offers, try M86 So1o Cut and Polish Cream.

I've always wanted to try M86. I typically don't hear much about it but everyone that mentions it seems to love it. Wasn't it megs first offering of SMAT abrasives? Does it have a shorter working time like M105 or is a more lubricated polish with a longer buffing cycle like M205?

The BOSS cream abrasives start off very small, but still break down on the 3rd + section pass. Meguiars SMAT abrasives do not break down, or enough to mention in this discussion.

As an alternative to 205, you can try Meguiars Ultimate Polish. It's VERY easy to work with, doesn't dust, inexpensive, and can be found locally just about anywhere if you are in a hurry to start work.
I'm not familiar with Ford truck paint, but UP does amazing things on Toyota and Mazda's.

UP has a lot of polishing oils that will hide marring. Good stuff, just know how it works.
