hey guys i'm fairly new to detailing and i'm still learning as I go along......I've noticed my paint has that annoying orange peel look but I guess theres no getting rid of that, but however there are these fine scratches that for some reason will not go away, I've tried orange pad (v34,v36) nothing seems to work. what do you guys recommend trying to get this black paint shining like glass with lots of gloss effect ?

What kind of polisher are you using. I'm not familiar with Chemical Guys compounds and polishes. Is one of the two you mentioned a compound??

Pic's please.

There is a difference between orange peel and texture. Orange peel is typical of a freshly painted vehicle that may have not been completely wet-sanded and is dull with deep texture.
Here is an example of orange peel, and a vehicle in desperate need of some damp sanding, followed up by compound & polish.

Texture is typical on new vehicles from the factory with OEM paint and as it's baked at extremely high temperatures there is a slight texture in the paint.
If your vehicle is OEM factory, you are roughly working with 4mils of paint (from primer, to base coat and clear). Clear being just about over 2 to 3 mils, about the thickness of a post-it-note.
I do not suggest wet or damp sanding this paint as you will leave very little for the future, if not burn through what you have.

Start with a quality compound, tool and pads. Do a test spot. But before doing anything, Watch this video first.

I cannot speak to chemical guys products as I do not use them. However, in reading on the forum, there are many other products that have rave reviews and yield great results such as:
Pinnacle Advanced Compound
Pinnacle Advanced Polish
Menzerna FG 400
Menzerna SF3500 (or new names)
Boss Fast Correcting Cream
Sonax 04-06
3D Products (501/502) or HD Speed

Just to name a few...

Here is a good 50/50 RAM 2500 I did for a customer last year. This was using 3D HD Speed, Griot's BOSS 15 with a Orange BOSS cutting pad:

Welcome.

Orange Peel - You can definitely get rid of the orange peel effect, but I would not personally recommend it if you are new to buffing and paint correction, especially on OEM paint.

As for your scratch issue:

1. What machine are you using?

2. Pad size?

3. What other pads do you have handy?

** A few pics would help us gauge here.

I've got a black 2015 / 1500 ram and have no shortage of orange peel. I think dodge thinks it gives it some pop after clearing. the clear on these rams is water base & very soft. I do get my share of swirls but I'm not always trying to remove them every time I clean the truck. I don't think the clear is thick enough to hold up to constant buffing & compounding. I really like the McKee's 360 & then go with a good carnauba wax or collinite 845. jmo, good luck.

I have a 2016 ram 2500 (black metallic). I have the same problem, the paint just has this blurriness to it, that holds it back from really popping. Thought about trying a carpro velvet orange peel pad. Anyone have any experience with using with factory paint? What compound would you recommend?
